Thoughts on Kitchen Tile Selection? What color paint?

Hi All,

Hope you are well. Got some great thoughts on my family room from everyone so wanted to pick your brain on our kitchen. Appliances have been replaced with stainless steel whirlpool appliances. Also replaced the window over the since with a large casement window. Will be replacing the double door with a large provia slider this summer.

It's tough to tell, but the color in the kitchen is actually the same color that's on the bottom of the eat-in. The wall with the phone is a different color entirely.

Here's the tile, which is Mannington's Adura Athena (Corinthian Coast) LVT. Thoughts on this with our current granite and cabinets?

We haven't a clue about wall colors - we're not creative. We like the chair rail as we have one in the dining room and living room, but we're not attached to it. The eat-in has vaulted ceiling that go up ~15'. Any thoughts on colors?

You're surrounded in gold and the floor tile will have you making a long term commitment to gold, which most people would agree is dated after being so popular in the 90s. Are you interested in going a different direction? We need some clear photos of your granite since tiled floors need to coordinate well with counter tops.

I think I'd go with a lighter tile that picks up the cream in your counters.

That granite is absolutely gorgeous, what a show stopper. Random thoughts: The granite I think will be the focal point and I can see why you want it on the islands. Then with the plain grey of the ceasarstone on the perimeter - that would be the restful part of the kitchen. I'm almost afraid that with that granite on the two islands and then the fire and ice on the backsplash that your eyes might wind up bouncing around the space though. In the morton5 kitchen the fire and ice is the show-stopper and everything else plays to it - both the cabinets and the counter. In your kitchen I'm not sure how the granite and backsplash will play off one another. The grey ceasar stone will look great against the fire and ice as will your cabinets but just be aware that it is the grey colour in the fire and ice that you will pick up and "see" along side the grey counters.. Morton5 played up the goldy tones of the backsplash with the floor and counter - again tying in the fire and ice. Can you get a bigger sample of the fire and ice and look at it against the granite? Technically, you can definitely go with different counters on your perimeter and island - but if you want the fire and ice to be the stand out in the kitchen just be careful of the granite that you chose. For the floor - I think it really depends on your final decision on the island. You want to be careful of having too much going on. Right now I wouldn't know what to suggest. You need to decide what features (backsplash or counters) are taking centre stage and what colours you want to play up before deciding.

Selected a paint color.. but having second thoughts

Funky, We have warm oak flooring in our home & for our family room/kitchen we chose a RH color called Sea Green. It is a bluish green but greyed down a little. When we bought the house, they had a dog poo color (sorry, but that's what it looked like) on the walls in here. We changed that to yellow & chose wrong...too much green undertone, and just wasn't right. I struggled & struggled, and went with the Sea Green.. It is an easy color to live with, and easy to accessorize with other colors such as red, pink, green, rusts. Our sofa is a caramel (darkish) leather. Hope that helps....our color goes great with the wood floors. Our main living space has Devine Oak and it also is easy to live with and goes wellwith the floors. It would look great with your existing rug. RH also has some green/greyish paints that are nice. Our painter said it went on well, and so far so good with maintenance.

I thinking a very light sage green would look super in the entire space. Dying to paint kitchen a dark color..... thoughts ? advice??

if your decor is interfering with your lights maybe your lights aren't strong enough? I would call in someone who has a lot of experience with lighting design to come in and give you a quote before choosing a dark color. I can't see the tone of your counters clearly enough to make a suggestion on a shade that I would recommend.

I'm not oppose to anything except replacing / painting the cabinets or replacing the appliances. Anything else I'd consider. I've posted and updated snapshot of the kitchen and the granite. Excuse the clutter.

i would probably put a wood or wood laminate floor instead of what u have picked out. your counter is busy and it will be very difficult to find a patterned floor to compliment it. the floor will compete with it and you will be in visual overload... i feel u need something very simple/plain to play nicely with your counters, if you go the tile route. once u have your floor picked out, then u can contemplate paint colors, if u want to change them.

FWIW, i have a wood laminate floor in my kitchen and its been great, 4 years in.

Thanks, sprtphntc. We will eventually do hardwood floors, but with the age of our kids and dog, we just don't think it would be a good idea now and it would cost too much.

I'm not against vinly wood floor planks. My concern is how it would look with our foyer since we have genuine hard wood in our foyer. Perhaps it's a matter of getting some samples and having a look. I also am not sure how wood would look with our cabinets and whether we should go with something the same shade, lighter, or darker?

you have a nice color cabs, i would try to match them as best i could color and species wise. look into the laminates, they really hold up well with dogs. we had a 50b dog and have a cat and we have no scratches. i am pretty sure we used "quick step". we have had no problems at all with it.

is your foyer right next to kitchen? if not i don't think it would be a big problem to go with laminated floor. they look very close to real and from a distance i don't think people will notice, except us TKO GWers!! :)

i think your kitchen/dining layout is perfect for it.
