Design Dilemma entry

entry, front yard & entry door

looking for ideas on designing the front entry door and yard. front entry door. not sure to do a wood stain or a bright colour. Also undecided how to lay out the walk way to the front door. there will also be rain chains on either side of the entry. the driveway comes in fro. the right side into the garage. undecided where to allocate visitor/teen parking.

I would make a concrete port in front of the garage doors of course to park cars. you can do concrete along the exterior walls of the home to support foundation, maybe a 1 foot worth. You can do a brick paved walkway to the front door with flower beds along the side of it. you can do mulch in the remaining areas if you do not want to pour concrete. I would avoid leaving the dirt, at least closest to your home because you dont want that dirt coming into your home. I have that issue right now with my home and we are brick paving the front entry and eliminating the dirt as much as possible. Hope this helps.

Have you tried cornering the two chairs (L-shape)? One on the window side, one on the laundry wall? Give them some space in between. Add some drama in corner like a full plant on an eye catching pedestal. Also need some color, consider interesting picture above the chair on laundry wall. If you have any children's artwork have it custom framed and show it off proudly.

Indian Hawthornes prefer a more acidic, rich, and well draining soil, so I’m not surprised they aren’t doing well. I’ve had them in my yard, and they survived, but never thrived (I’m west of D/FW). I ended up taking them out. I like the interesting scallop design — the rounded shapes are a nice contrast to the harsh West Texas terrain. Ornamental grasses/succulents/some softer cacti/various perennials (lantana, gaura, and so many others) would all do well there and once established would require little irrigation. The right mixtures planted together can have a lush, natural look, if you prefer that. Browse and ask at your local nurseries for specific plant ideas or google Tx Xeriscape plants. IMO, the key is just keeping things from encroaching upon the walkway (especially hard spiny plants, which I’d not plant there), but that can still look substantial enough to balance the hardscape ... plus, soften things up some. Someone mentioned “white pebbles” and cacti, I wouldn’t do that anywhere. People have storm doors because, they open doors and pull down the screen for air. A storm door has a security lock on it, for safety. Phantom screens are wrecked by children and pets go right through them and can escape your property and end lost or worse. I personally, would never ever be without storm doors on my house. I have very nice wood doors, and they are original to the house and still in excellent condition because they were protected with storm doors.
