Recommend a slide in electric (non induction) range for 2nd home

You can clean up the induction cook surface with a microfiber cloth and some glass cleaner in one quick wipe and be out in the sunshine. For ceran everything is baked and ground into the surface in a deposition of mineral residue. This stuff is always there unless you want to spend a lot of vacation time removing it. The best stuff is Cif from the UK and or single edged razor blades. Like going through an oven cleaning every day to be redone the next day and the next. The level of effort required makes this among the most arduous household tasks requiring repeated intervention....See Morehelp finding double oven range w induction
Comments (8)While you are waiting for further responses, you might try searching on "OTR" and the 240v Advantium. There have been numbers of recent discussions of both subjects and those threads may shed some light on the subject of how well they work as second ovens and microwave substitutes. Also, you might find some useful info in the current thread on "speedovens vs. microwaves?" I don't recall a recent thread that is specifically about using the 240v Advantium OTR above an induction range, but Advantiums have been in use for the better part of a decade and there may be some discussion of the topic of how well they work as a second oven. As for venting performance. the knock on OTR units generally is that you've got a flat bottom surface that only extends over the back burners and the vent/intakes depend on suction to draw vapor from pots on the front burners. It is just less effective than a larger dedicated range hood, particularly a canopy hood. My recollection is that LG made an OTR with a slide-out vent-pick-up tray that extends over the front burners but I don't think it had a full-on oven capabilities like the Advantiums. Anyway, we deal with the kitchen spaces we have and OTRs are sometimes the option that fits. The fact that a canopy hood would be better may not matter in such situations. IIRC, Luv2putt posted on using an OTR with his Viking induction range and was reasonably happy with it. I think there have been some discussions of folks who were satisfied in using OTRs with Wolf and NXR all gas ranges, as well, where the venting needs are more strenuous than with induction. If you want to search for those posts, Nunyabiz1 is a name that I recall having posted on the subject. On looking at a Samsung first, be aware that there are three different Samsung induction ranges currently available in the US market: two freestanding models (NE597NOPBSR and NE 595NOPBSR) which have been on the market for three years and are priced between $1200 and $1800 depending on model and holiday sales pricing, and the slide-in with the divisible oven (NE58H9970WS) which was released last fall and runs $2500 to $3k plus depending on vendor and holidays. The slide-in has a lot to recommend it but there are some limitations including having only 10 burner heat settings (the freestanding models have 20). I haven't seen much info on how well the divisible oven works when the divider is in place, but Samsung has been selling Canadians a freestanding version with this feature (NE599NOPBSR) and you could look for reviews on that range....See MoreNeed help deciding between Induction single vs. Electric/Gas Double
Comments (13)Trent, if budget permits, you would be much better served by a Bosch induction range and a medium or large Breville on the side. The large Breville has convection, and will easily serve a small family. (We save so much energy not firing up the big oven.) Yes, the Bosch is technically a slide-in but it has a back plate you can purchase a la carte to fill the whole space. My next-door neighbor has it, and is ecstatically happy. That said, it will run you about $1K more than the Whirlpool. I emailed my BIL to find out how the Whirlpool is working out these days, and he says that they love, love, love the stovetop, but the ovens will often burn things they ought not. (My sis and my BIL are world class chefs, no lie.) Also, he says the whole thing will on rare occasion shut down if they run both ovens and the stovetop. This happened within the first month of ownership. Other folks on the AF have remarked this issue as well, IIRC. Bear in mind my sis has had this range almost two years now. Bosch didn't have one on the market when she bought. Possibly Whirlpool has fixed the shutdown issue. But Bosch has been making induction for probably a quarter century, and make an excellent mid price range; high-end guts without the $$$ label. The Whirlpool, it seems to me, will be a compromise at best. Good luck!...See More30 inch electric slide in range replacement - double oven, induction?
Comments (6)There are a number of induction threads if you do a search for the word, they should pop up. I traded my electric for a Samsung Chef induction double oven with warming drawer. The drawer is really low and since it's just DH and me, we don't turn it on and use it for storage. I think it bakes unevenly, although it has two baking "modes" and although we use the small top oven, which fits a smaller roasting pan, we rarely need both ovens. It is convertible to one oven. But I would never go back to an electric top over an induction. Never. As I said in another thread, I've actually been using a Tovala counter top combi-steam oven because I love the way it cooks but it is a one or two person appliance....See MoreTrent Floog
