Average cost for family health insurance premiums?

For decades, my family has always been fortunate to have good health insurance offered through my and DH'S employment. With DH retiring soon and an anticipated move out of state, we may soon be in a situation where we have to shop for private health insurance for our family of 3, at least temporarily until I find employment with good benefits.

Cobra may also be a temporary option if our current insurance works out of state, but I'm wondering what to expect as far as average premiums for private health insurance for a family. Any reasonable estimates?

DH is preparing for the worst but I think his expected $2000 a month guesstimate might (hopefully) be higher than what we would actually pay. (Edited to add - I don't expect to qualify for any reduced rates so we'd be looking at full price premiums.)

We've always been satisfied with our Blue Cross HMO plan with pretty low deductibles ($20-40 doctor visit copays and $100-250 hospital copays) so that seems to work for us. I'd rather have less freedom in choosing from a wide network of doctors in exchange for less chance of high out-of-pocket expenses. DH and I are both relatively young, so no Medicare options in our near future.

We're all healthy, although DD and I do see specialists a few times a year for non-critical issues, and we would also want to be prepared for emergency hospital visits since we have a young child (and I'm a bit of a clutz!). We just recently went through an unexpected emergency surgery plus a few ER visits for stitches and I'm so glad we had good insurance!
