When do you start to feel the excitement?
Comments (32)I get the blues when the days are short, and it's too cold to be in the garden. I don't let myself get too excited about gardening, but this year, I'm gardening by going through my pics from different times of the past season, looking for pics of specific flowers for my blog. Usually, I have dreams about gardening a couple times a month, but have only had one so far. Maybe it's because of the blogging. We have melting snow today, as it's currently a warm 50 degrees. I am always excited when the days start getting longer instead of shorter. I feel that I can survive the winter, and hope for the soil to be dry enough the end of February to plant my first lettuce, spinach, radishes, and kale. I figure that I want to get out while I can, and if it rains or snows later, it's OK, because those seeds are in there, ready to grow when the conditions are right. I have had seedlings get snowed on, and still survive. Besides, I am already planting more when I see they are up. I have a plan to put a tomato plant or two in my new flower bed, and try to keep the leaves from touching the dirt, because mine always get diseased and die, and I don't have room in the veggie garden to rotate them well. I have some holes to fill in different beds, including the area by our repaired shed. I plan to put in some not too tall growing goldenrods, coneflowers, asters, and some kind of summer blooming annuals. Sue...See MoreCalling all people with apron/farmers sink
Comments (30)I have a Ruvati, curved front stainless steel apron sink. LOVE it. One GIANT 36" bowl, it's super thick stainless, nice sharp corners (zero degree radius...I know some people find them hard to keep clean, but our sink is more decorative...the dishes go in the dishwasher, we have a laundry sink for the dirty stuff like clothes and plants, and really, it's for filling pots and washing veggies and such. Love it. Cutting board and strainer that mount right in, nice lining underneath to keep the sound down, and came with a strainer to keep us from banging the bottom of the sink. Just gorgeous; granite installers thought it was lovely. It's SO huge most people call it a small bathtub, and I'm pretty sure we'll bathe our children in it until they're 4 lol...See MoreWhy do I get a suffocating feeling when I try to organize?
Comments (18)You are not alone. As others have said, I think the first step is accepting that your house is never going to look like a sit-com, TV, Ozzie and Harriet, Cosby and family home. In real homes the floor has to be mopped over and over again. You have to take off the kids clothes and wash them, ( wash the kids and the clothes ) and then put them away and wash the bath tub. I used to live in fear that someone would come over and see my mountain of clothes on the sofa. We practiced stashing things away in 2 minutes or less, I used to think that was abnormal. It not, thatÂs why most do not want others to drop by with calling first. I am feeling you sister. I was traumatized the day my dear sister-in law told me she was in the process of cleaning under her refrigerator. How do you factor that task in? I would rather be doing, well almost anything else, but housework. The whole subject of cleaning makes me hungry. For me the first real step in dealing with the whole thing was reading these posts. You see, you are not alone. The second is following the good advice from Tally- Sue and all the others who have been there too. The third is accepting that, like brushing your teeth, it just bugs you until you deal with it and afterward you can forget about. I sometimes get up real earlier in the morning just to clean and listen to a movie. Even if I spend the time on the forum at least my day starts earlier and the work does get done, eventually. For me the real big change came, when I started replacing all the old things that I could never could get clean. When I felt the pressure from DH to do more, or to switch my concentration to some dismal task, I started throwing things out. I mean I went crazy and decided, I was not going to deal with the un-removable 15 minute scrub down of my toilet anymore so I threw the toilet out,( and got a new one )I did the same with the nasty uncleanable toaster and the smelly old microwave, then the wall to wall carpet. I only have things around me that I really love and are new and crisp. So when I spend time cleaning it looks clean. I want to keep things looking clean. Instead of bringing the mountain of clothes upstairs I leave it in the basement. I clean between commercial breaks now. When I get that creepy feeling that DH thinks I wasted my day doing "nothing" I leave the kids with him for a few hours and go to the library. Ususally when I get back, he "gets its". I hope you continue to enjoy your garden and your kids, and I hope you keep us posted on your plan of attack!...See MoreTo those who feel bad when someone posts about grammar
Comments (28)I tend to be long winded both in written and in speech. I figure if someone wants straight to the point, they can skip my post if they desire. So please feel free, because I feel a long winded moment coming on here. I do tend to write matter-of-factly, so I'm sure there are times when people take offense to it. I would imagine some if it would depend on the person's mood. I can be sensitive myself at times. Usually I let a lot of things roll off my back, but if I am pms'ing it's often not so easy. Thanks ovaries! I have tolerance for other people's differences and would consider myself a very accepting person. I consider myself to be very empathic and can often see where another person is coming from, but I'm also not afraid to speak my mind. This is probably where trouble finds me. LOL I find what bothers me the most is the gang mentality that happens all too often on anonymous forums. It's not what's being said, it's that people all start jumping on the band wagon against someone and it's not even necessarily to do with what a person was asking. I've felt this with myself and I've seen this happen on other posts and quite a bit on Houzz. I have jumped in more than once to "stand up" for someone. Usually it's because I hope people realize that maybe they are being harsh against the poster. Again, it's not usually about people disagreeing with the poster but how they go about it. In most cases jumping in doesn't help. LOL My husband always asks me why I even bother. I think for me personally, it comes down to certain trigger words in posts that set me off. Sometimes those trigger words don't effect me, but if there are hormones involved, I can get testy. It's not that I'm so upset that I could drop kick someone through the screen, but I do get annoyed. Ok, full disclosure, I couldn't drop kick someone even if I wanted to. Usually, the majority of the time when I'm "debating" an issue, it's simply that, debating. I'm very, very rarely heated. I don't know why so many people just automatically assume that if someone disagrees with you they are heated. I can't even count the number of times I have laughed in exasperation because of something being said over and over again. It's like beating a dead horse. If you have something new to add to the conversation, please do, but stop repeating the exact same thing over and over again, especially when someone has already answered the question. It really does usually make me shake my head and laugh. There could be an entire post about someone complaining that I do not agree with, it rarely bothers me. This is usually true, even if it's something that I feel is an attack against something I do or believe in. I am definitely not one to shy away from standing up for myself. I come from a long line of people who are not afraid to speak their mind and are stubborn to boot, but life is too short to jump in to try and change someone's mind on every post you disagree with. So please note: 1) If I seem "angry" in my posts, I'm likely not 2) I will likely sound more upset 1 week out of every month 3) People on message boards are still real people and have real feelings. You might disagree with someone completely on one post and then totally agree with them on the very next one....See MoreErrant_gw
