Gap between countertop and cabinet. Is this acceptable?
Comments (6)Thank you everyone for your input. I never know if these issues are fairly typical or something to be alarmed about. Hollysprings-We had issues with the bathroom floor being unlevel. The GC, cabinet maker and tile setter worked together installing the cabinet. Maybe that was the best they could do with that crazy floor? Enduring- I see shims and will follow up w GC to ensure there is adequate support. Thank you! Hosenemesis- There is caulk near the walls, but no caulk in the middle of the counter where I see the shimmed area with the big gaps. I sent the cabinet maker a pic. Will follow up when resolved....See MoreBrand new kitchen, big gap between range and countertop
Comments (3)"What is considered the 'normal' width for the gap?" I'm assuming you're speaking of a freestanding range? If so, a gap between 30 1/16" - 30 1/4" would be considered normal. The countertop sides should be perpendicular to the rear wall and parallel to each other, no matter what the cabinets are doing....See MoreWide Gap Between Countertops and Range
Comments (16)I know that some amount of gap is normal. But usually it is much narrower. And even with a narrow gap, I hate how dirt gets trapped in it. I usually find some heat-resistant caulk and seal it. It's not the manufacturer-recommended procedure, but it has been working fine for me for years. Every couple of years, when the caulk looks grimy, I replace it. With these huge gaps, there is no way caulk can seal things. So, yes, I'd insist on them fixing things. And I'd also insist on them making everything plumb and straight....See MoreGap between quartz countertop and cabinets
Comments (19)And stone slabs and quartz tops are always perfectly flat, and the same thickness? Of course the answer is no. Even a great cabinet install isn't perfect, the cabinets themselves are not perfect. And even if the cabinets aren't level, are countertop installers are suppose to reset cabinets? No, if it's bad enough they should stop and explain what needs to happen for them to install their tops. Even a great counter install isn't perfect. I've never seen an countertop install that didn't have a shim somewhere. Anyone who says that they install counters with no shims ever, is a telling a story....See MoreAlex Chávez
