Compatibility with programs and Win10

I have yet to upgrade from Win8.1 to Win 10 on 2 computers that have Quickbooks Pro2012 (installed via link file from Intuit which I have backed up); MS Pro Suite 2010 (have disk); and Photoshop CS3 (have disk). Obviously, these are all older programs but they still work well for me in my small biz. Upon researching their compatibility, some say all these programs work with Win10 and others say one or more do not. For this reason, I am hesitant to upgrade to Win10 before the July free deadline. Is Win10 even worth upgrading - period?

And yes, I realized QB Pro2012 isn't supported by Intuit any longer with updates and I'm fine with that. It does what I need it to do as is since I only use the basics.

Does anyone have proof via experience and use that one or all of these programs run using Win10? Thanks.

I cannot offer any "proof" that the programs you mentioned will work under Win 10, but I submit that if they did not then by now you'd be hearing a huge chorus of complaints about it...and I haven't heard any yet.

Is it worth updating to Win 10? It was for me. Whether or not I like the OS is completely irrelevant. All I require is that it works and I can get done what I need to. So far, Win 10 works.

Make a system image before upgrading to win10. Then you will have two potential methods to return to your original win8.1 should win10 not be to your liking .

Win10 upgrade, if you don't run disk cleanup, has 30 days in which you can roll back to your previous operating system before its built in computer maintenance automatically runs the disk cleanup. A system image would give you another shot at returning to win8.1 should the roll back fail.

Kidzu, of course I tried that. What I get are a thousand little tiny boxes. When I click on them I get one photo that is so small I can't tell if its worth keeping. It won't enlarge. Plus, each photo is in a separate box so it requires clicking on these tiny boxes one at a time. I have over 1000 photos on my phone and many I do not want on my computer. I tried following the directions from Google. I can't tell what is what. When I plug in the phone a screen comes up full of photos with check marks. I can't tell if I'm looking at the phone or explorer. The only heading on the page is 'photo collection.' Over 1200 photos all containing check marks. If I click 'clear' and try to individually check the photos I want, it still imports all the photos. It states that the photos will be saved in a folder under my name. I'll be dammed if I can find them. I've had it with Win 10. This is ridiculous. Before I could copy what I wanted into the folders I wanted. Now I can't tell if I'm looking at the pics on the phone or on Windows. There is no information. I deleted multiple copies of the same photos and they keep reappearing. The system sucks. I simply want to copy manually what I want to copy and save in the folders I choose. Stupid, dumb and typical Microsoft! Thanks, no reply is necessary. Jane

Bluetooth dongle on win10 netbook PC?

I use to have a couple of very Cheap Bluetooth Dongles that I used and they worked great. They did after many years of service fall apart! I tried replacing them with more expensive dongles and couldn't get them to work. Snidely is right, kinda hit and miss. I do however think your problem my be deeper. Since the release of Windows 10 there have been lots of problems with WiFi Adapters and Bluetooth Adapters not functioning correctly or not at all. The 2 Acer Laptops I purchased a year ago had Windows 8 installed when I purchased them. I installed Windows 8.1 shortly after the purchase. The WiFi/Bluetooth Adapter worked great in Win 8 & 8.1. Once I installed Windows 10 on July 29th neither the WiFi or the Bluetooth worked. I ended up buying two New Cards for the Laptops and now the WiFi/Bluetooth are working great. My sister purchased the same laptop with the same WiFi/Bluetooth Card, after the Windows 10 upgrade her card works fine, no problems. The funny thing, the card that stopped working worked fine in a different Acer Laptop with Windows 10 already installed!

I should have given more detail. The Win7 is probably not legitimate. I bought the old desk top several years ago on craigslist. It appeared to have been used in a business environment. It had/has Win7 Ultimate, but it was originally an ME machine. It also had MS Office. After ~1 year, I got messages that the MS Office needed renewing. Eventually, I went to my computer guy, who I guess has purchased bulk copies of various office sweets etc and also upgrades and retires old computers, presumably/perhaps moving their liscenses. He got Office reset. Last year, I had a problem needing his help and he told me that there were now indications that the Win7 ultimate was potentially not legal, but that he didn't have any copies of Ultimate. I'm not sure why he didn't set up a normal Win7 that I assume he has. A month or two after this, I began getting the Windows not real messages with the black screen.

Latest Win10 update messed up sleep

Have 'rolled back' from the Creators update seven times now. The update destroys my display. What's funny, or maybe not is when the update has messed up my display, I go to the device manager, uninstall the "onboard" video graphics and reboot. Windows then installs a good, working graphics driver "but" within thirty seconds automatically uninstalls that one and installs the crappy driver again! I have tried every tool and registry hack to stop it but nothing works. I have tried installing the original driver but nothing seems to work! On windows 10 Home you cannot stop the update .. only delay it until the next time! I understand that it's an AMD innards problem.8(

My QB Pro 2010 works fine after switching from 8.1 to 10.

The only incompatibility I've found is that my old Lexmark WiFi printer is not on speaking terms with WIN10, even when using a cable connection.

The Start menu on one of my user accounts also quit coming up after using WIN10 for a while, for which there does not seem to be a reliable fix other than creating another user account and deleting the old.

Interesting about one of the User Accounts not coming up. I have 2 users on my laptop, one being biz and other personal. And on the DT, I also have 3 user accounts. Hope this isn't a wide spread issue.

So far, my older Brother MFC490 does not have an updated driver for Win10, so that's another black area.

Glad to hear QB2010 is working for you, Randy. That's my biggest fear since I need it for the biz.

Mikie, yes, I will make a system image just before upgrading if I even decide to upgrade.
