Pottery Barn Upholstered Headboards

Hi All,

I'm thinking about a PB upholstered headboard...

Once again, a rushed decision as their sale offer ends today. ( have a feeling it'll be extended another day or 2 as they typically do)

Given I have to pay in Cdn$. ,would be great to take advantage of 25% off!

If I could easily decide on fabric, I'd probably jump in, but as always, I'm a little stuck on choices. Also, the height options are 50" or 60" and ideally, I'd want @56". Not a deal breaker.

Anyhow...wondering if any of you have a PB bed? If so, are you happy with it?

Here are a couple of options I'm looking at...

1st pic is Raleigh and 2nd is Harper.

Also, like a wingback style...

The other option is that I source a local upholster to make a custom one here in Toronto

I like the first one because of its graceful lines. The second one seems over powering and the third a little unusual looking. We have a tufted one and haven't had a problem with staining but we don't use much on our hair and I've never noticed that our heads go up that far anyway. We do have a cat but after one try of scratching we firmly told her no and she hasn't done it since. I would look around on the internet a bit more before making a decision; there are so many sources our there. We got the one we wanted rather inexpensively and it's the perfect style, color and size for us.

Please ignore the ugly chest and funky ivy over the window. This was in 2009, the chest and ivy are gone and we've added pale gold floor length curtains that are on the French door over the bed to control the light.

I don't have one so no experience, but I have dust allergies and always worry about fabric being a dust catcher, right at my head. So the tufted one, although I like its looks, seems to me would be difficult to keep clean. I also wonder about staining from hair products...I use mousse and spray on my hair and just don't know if it would ever affect the headboard.

Hopefully some people with experience can give you more helpful feedback :)

Check out the ones at Cost plus world market, they are having a sale also. I just saw several on their website.

I too have severe allergies so could not use one myself.

I purchased the Pottery Barn Silk Duponi Tie Top Drapes in ivory. Initially I purchased 4 panels for my living room bay window and 4 panels for my dining room window. I believe both windows are around 100" wide. I love them so much I purchased 4 more panels for my kitchen eating nook window as well. (I'm lucky that my significant other has not voiced any objections to the curtains.) I absolutely love the curtains and I feel they made the rooms look 10x better than before. The 4 panels for each window look perfect (to me): full and beautiful. The silk duponi looks expensive and the texture is lovely. The panels definitely filter/dim the light but not a lot. Previously I had black velvet curtains on my living room window and nothing on my dining room window (open to the living room - opposite sides of the house) and the living room is significantly brighter than before. In fact, I pretty much only open the curtains if company is coming over because they let in enough light closed. I would imagine the clay color would block the light a little more. The curtains do have a white lining behind the silk. I used the large Pottery Barn Standard Drape Rod and it has a single support in the middle. I purchased the extra-large size for my family room sliding glass door with 2 fixed windows beside it (I think around 110"?) but I have not yet installed the rod or curtains, so I'm not certain how many supports. I think just the 2 outside and the single in the middle, but I'm not positive. I didn't do a great deal of research before purchasing the drapes so I'm not certain if you could find something equally as beautiful elsewhere. But I really do love these from Pottery Barn. I feel like the quality and styling is fantastic and I would definitely do it all over again.

Comparing IKEA to Lee is not a fair comparison. Lee sofas are my favorite brand stylisitically, but they are very pricey -- around here they are more expensive than PB. IKEA sofas are dirt cheap. I've owned several and some hold up better than others. Right now, we have the Karlstad line of sofas in our basement - a corner sectional and a loveseat. Both are going on 2 years old and still look brand new in spite of being in my kids playroom where they serve as trampolines and forts just as often as are sofas. But I owned a different IKEA sofa (the Ekeskog) where the cushions slid off the thing every time someone sat on it. They are also suprisingly comfy -- some IKEA sofas are not, so I would recommend sit-testing something in person before buying. If you want to go IKEA, I'd stay with a darker color (to avoid staining). I wouldn't count on washing the slips regularly because they can be a pain to get on and off and they can shrink. The upside is that IKEA tends to keep the same styles forever, so if your cover gets dirty (or you're just in the mood for a change), you can buy a new one for not a whole lot of money. If you've got the money for Lee, it's definitely a better sofa, but for a the size sectional I have in the basement, you are looking at $800ish for IKEA vs. at least $4K for Lee. Even if the IKEA one dies and I have to replace it, I can do so 4 times before approaching the cost of the Lee.

I have never seen free shipping on furniture at PB. All the furniture has a surcharge, as you saw, since they are delivered by furniture delivery companies. I can't imagine they'd ever offer that for free. RE: sales, julie is right. If you have enough patience, your item will likely go on sale at some point this year. We do have an upholstered headboard now...an inexpensive one I'd bought on- line several years ago. Have never been happy with the color/ fabric and style, so thought I might take the plunge on a new one.

I just vacuum it to get rid of some of the dust. Re: hair product, we both tend to sleep with a 2nd pillow propped behind, so the headboard doesn't come into connect with hair product/ oils etc...

We have a head board that is covered in leather. Easy to clean and comfortable to prop up on to read or watch Kindle.

Of the ones I posted above, I like the 1st best as well.

Another that I'm looking at having made locally, could be similar to the one below... Or again, similar style to the PB camelback as in the 1st pic above.

Decisions, decisions:)

I've had an upholstered PB bed for 10 yrs. I believe it was manufactured by Mitchell Gold at the time. It's held up better than great.

I can't say the same for their Bedford Office Furniture which I would not recommend.

I would check out wayfair and overstock. Much better prices for the same thing. My roommate got a queen fully upholstered bed frame and headboard in a grey flannel ish material for 229 and free shipping

Be aware that most of the readymade upholstered headboards are VERY high to accommodate today's very high box springs and mattresses. If one lives in a house with traditional 8' ceilings (which in fact are closer to 7 1/2"), a very tall headboard can look ridiculous. I have had ones custom made at the local upholstery shop and then had custom made mattress/box springs that were not so high. Looks in far better proportion to the size/height of the room.
