Silk Dupioni Panels....
Comments (27)She, if you are planning on opening/closing your drapes, you may want to give serious consideration to JC Penney's pleated supreme line. They are very similar in appearance to dupioni panels and are pretty reasonably priced. The good thing is that with a 78 inch window, you can get one pair of pleated in the appropriate size for less than $200. So for example if you purchased a 144x84 that would be two panels with each panel width being 77 inches wide. The fullness is already built into the individual panels. In my old home at one point, I purchased the LaScala for my DR and the same color panels in the supreme line for LR and I must say they both looked really well together and I ended up favoring the supreme over the LaScala panel. I note from the website that right now for example a pair of pleated at 150 inches is on sale for $164.00. The great thing is that JC Penney has a great return policy so if you don't like them you can always bring them back. One thing a sales person told me recently, that often the catalog price is better for wt's than the in-store price. Finally the store always has samples of supreme on hand to examine. In terms of size, again I would defer to the experts here. Here is a link that might be useful: JC Penney Supreme...See Moredrapes: rest. hardware vs pottery barn
Comments (6)Thanks so much. Your advice is really helpful. I'll wait and see what comes up on ebay for Restoration Hardware then. Paying the retail is not an option - especially since they charge 30% to ship here. There were just 2 pairs (used) auctioned off on Friday, but I was away and my DH did the bidding. If I'd known the quality then, I probably would have told him to bid higher but we stopped at $200 and they went for $225. From what you say it probably would have been worth it to keep bidding. But I'll keep watching and hopefully something else will come up before long. Again, I really appreciate the response....See MoreBlue Smoke silk drapes from Pottery Barn
Comments (9)Hi Bonnie- Yes,I had the red buffalo check drapes for several years and then switched to the white drapes two years ago. While the white drapes look nice I am kind of over that look. The all white thing seems to be everywhere these days and I'm ready to move on to something different. Pattycakes- I have been eyeballin those very drapes but in the end decided to order from another place. I will definetely keep them in mind for a back up if the ones I ordered do not work though :o) Fromflorida- I read the reviews earlier today and decided they would not work when I saw it said they had green in them. In the end I ordered panels from Half Price Drapes so keep your fingers crossed!!!! Thanks so much for all the feedback...I really appreciate it :o) Have a safe and Happy 4th of July!!!! ~Des...See MoreAny suggestions on removing wrinkles from my silk dupioni panels?
Comments (12)I'd second Les's suggestion of having them pressed, given you have so many panels (I don't love to iron LOL) But, I iron dupioni all the time so don't be afraid of it...just be afraid of all that work :P I make sure my iron is on silk setting with steam, and make sure not to start ironing until the iron is up to temp (or the water will spit). Then I iron on the face of the dupioni with a quick brush over the fabric, no liners etc...I do it all the time (I sew quilts out of silk instead of cotton). Silk satins are a totally different ball game, but dupioni is very durable. One thing you can try to help now is to pull your panels all the way back on their rods to the fully folded position. Finger gather them as they're supposed to be (I don't know what your headers are) and then SOFTLY tie a large ribbon or piece of cotton around them to hold them, use 3 per panel if they're less than 9' long to hold them in place (your drycleaner will return them to you like this). If the wrinkles are going to drop they'll do so better tied up like this and the drapes will lay on the folds better in the future. If you go the professional route, when you get them back they'll be tied like this anyhoo. Hang them with the ties still on and leave them be for a couple of days to drop out any wrinkles that you get in transport. It would be my guess that you will have to iron...dupioni from a retailer always needs it. Ohhh and ladies, if you are ironing on your dining or kitchen tables, or even your bed, (which does not work well because it's not hard) buy a cheap blanket, like a boiled wool looking cotton or synthetic with a tight weave, thick....use that to iron as it will buffer your table from the heat and moisture of the iron. And don't go nuts with the steam....that never works well even with the liner....See MoreKathleen McGuire
