Walmart of all places has nice dupioni panels (though the weight is not the same). The panels are not as wide but if you do a few together you won't notice that. Or you could sew them together as well....

I'll have to check it out. I actually bought some gold panels from wal mart over the weekend. Got them home and they look so much different than what they did in the stores. We're talking ugly grandma old. I'm taking them back. :)

I'm also looking for these panels but in a different color. Try JC Penney, specially the closeout section on the web. Some have great prices!

Target also has Dupioni panels. Although not the same weight, more like Walmart. Penney's has some great sale's on the silks.

I almost hate to order curtains online because of not being able to see them in person first. (color)

I was looking around in boscovs the other week but everything i found was one here, one there.

Had a gift card to target for $50. misplaced it. nice huh? (I'm usually very organized.) Hopefully it will turn up soon!

In the meantime i will be taking my gold ones back to wally world. It's funny how sometimes i'll buy something and try to convince myself "that's the one!" because i want it to work so bad!

Bed Bath and Beyond with the 20% off coupons? The one near me takes expired coupons.

I was at BB&B today where they have their curtain panels hanging on display. I thought they looked very nice, and good selection of pretty colors, and great prices! Would have to see them side by side with P.Barn, though. May be not be the weight or quality in look.

JPC. I have not been disappointed in the draperies I got from them.

I have found though, the prices are never as good on line
as in the store.

Silk Dupioni is very very nice there.

Check Ebay........sometimes brand new PB ones will pop up over there.

A couple of JCP tips I learned while buying drapery. This area is all commission sales so prices are flexible. I usually get an additional 10% off ticketed sale prices. They can order stuff out of the catalog for you at store or lower prices with free shipping to the store. I've bought panels at 60% off regular catalog prices, plus they have a great return policy. I've exchanged these catalog orders at the store and they'll ship the replacements to your house for free.

I am a big fan of silk dupioni panels and the cheapest place to buy them even custom to ur window sizes - India.
Thats not practical even for me - I have family there.
The ones at Pottery Barn, HD EXPO are the weightiest ones and their lining is very good quality. But can range from $119-139 a piece for th 108" length.
The ones at BBB and Linens n Things are lightweight. They range for about $59.99 for the 108" length and with teh 20% coupon are less.

The ones from JCP called LaScala are in the middle of teh spectrum. And you can find a coupon for JCP if you search on the web.

my window with the trim is 78". I want it to look full. Would i want to buy 4 shorter width panels? I'm assuming since i would like to open in the middle i wouldn't want one panel of 108".

I think that will make a difference in size. I think one single 41 inch panel on each side is going to look skimpy so I think you may need two on each side. The only problem I forsee is the possiblity of their being a gap between the two panels on each side.I'm not sure I'm explaining this well. Experts help! The experts here may be able to tell you how to minimize or get rid of the gap.

You are going to need 2 41" panels, and if you use drapery rings with clips there's a way to hide the gap in between the two. You could make the last ring of the first panel the first ring of the second - kwim.

I agree that the PB are expensive. I bought 6 panels for my familyroom windows. Afterward I wished that I had bought cheaper. Only thing I have noticed about them is that they really hold up when it comes to the tugging and pulling that we do to move them back and forth. We do this daily and during the day pull them shut due to sun and back open again later and then shut again at night. Have held up great in the 4 years that I have had them. A friend has the cheaper version from somewhere (can't remember) and her panels are starting to look a beat from all of the pulling. Maybe because the fabric is thinner and more delicate. One thing about going cheaper is that if you get sick of them you won't feel so badly about tossing them out.

debora - i'm sitting here asking myself what's the difference between pleated and non pleated.. i think i like the pleated ones. And what's tailored?
I wondered how that worked with having gaps between the two panels on each side. I was planning on using the rings.

nami - thanks! i actually bought the bedding off ebay months ago. However, if i'd have realized the texture of it....i would've left it with the seller! Real snaggy type material. This should be interesting when i acutally put it on the bed. My one cat does have claws. :) I have a backup bedroom set that i also love (non snaggy. think it's laura ashley 'isabella') so i'm trying to find curtains that will work with either set.

winker - i've also noticed a lot of the panels i'm liking are "dryclean only". This just sounds like a real pain in the rump. Any change putting them in the washer on "delicate" works? I've been wrestling with this for awhile also. I was also planning on opening and closing the bedroom curtains so i don't want something to fall apart/look beat shortly after i buy them. Even cheap curtains don't seem cheap to me.

She, if you are planning on opening/closing your drapes, you may want to give serious consideration to JC Penney's pleated supreme line. They are very similar in appearance to dupioni panels and are pretty reasonably priced. The good thing is that with a 78 inch window, you can get one pair of pleated in the appropriate size for less than $200. So for example if you purchased a 144x84 that would be two panels with each panel width being 77 inches wide. The fullness is already built into the individual panels.

In my old home at one point, I purchased the LaScala for my DR and the same color panels in the supreme line for LR and I must say they both looked really well together and I ended up favoring the supreme over the LaScala panel.

I note from the website that right now for example a pair of pleated at 150 inches is on sale for $164.00. The great thing is that JC Penney has a great return policy so if you don't like them you can always bring them back. One thing a sales person told me recently, that often the catalog price is better for wt's than the in-store price. Finally the store always has samples of supreme on hand to examine.

In terms of size, again I would defer to the experts here.

Antique Satin drapes are what I grew up with and that is not a bad thing! My mother had the ivory antique satin for years. When I was newly married, I also had the ivory antique satin from JCP. (Just like mom. She had great taste). They are a beautiful material that has a similar look to the dupioni's as deborah has said. They were pinch pleat hung on a traverse rod beacuse I needed to be able to open and close them for privacy. To me, they also have a very classic look. Recently, I bought the PB dupioni at a sale for $89 per panel. They are hung from rings and are left open. If you plan on using them as a "working" drape, i.e. opening and closing them on a daily basis, then consider using a traverse rod. It gives a very neat appearance and might help prolong the life a bit. You can also get a decorative traverse rod with rings if that look appeals to you more.

From the times that I have tried to wash something (very delicately I must say and air dry) I have found that the fabric that is in need of dry cleaning shrinks away from the lining leaving a look that is not smooth and there are wrinkles that for some reason I cannot get out and only the cleaners can. There are metal rods that you can attach to the first hook on each panel and pull them open that way without touching them, but that would add to your payment as well. I really like my PB dupioni panels. They have really held up and really take a beating (4 kids - two older teens (never careful) and two younger children (for sure never careful). In the afternoon the room gets a lot of sun and the lining really helps to keep it out. They have not faded either.

I agree with Debora, go with pleated if you will be opening and closing them often. The pleats maintain the "accordian" like flow of material, which allows them to bunch more evenly when closed. It also looks better when closed, rather than a flat piece of material.

I've had good luck with "Dryel" for home dry-cleaning needs.

Forgot to mention, I do not have pleats. I agree with all who say that they look neater. I'm always bugged when I look at mine because they look sloppier. Things like that always bug me though.
