Oxymoron - Most practical "black" countertop & sink --

I'm having a vanity custom built for our new master bath (LONG story) and the best-looking option for the overall design would be a black counter top with an undermount sink. But this is a bathroom, and I'm not a clean freak -- and I know this is not at all practical.

Aside from cultured stone (sorry - just NOT my thing and the design will be vintage), what would be the least impractical options for counter top and sink?

I'm assuming black marbles would be out due to etching. Soapstone is good for chemical-resistance, but I'm worried about the chip and scratch potential. I've had absolute black granite before (polished) and not been happy with the super-hard, 'glassy' look. Don't know enough about slate or quartzite to know if they're good choices... Maybe a granite with an antique or leather finish - anyone done that?
