Comments (8)The advice you'd be better off never repotting is accurate ........... if you think the effort of repotting, saved, leaves you better off. As for the plant's well being, the advice taken is a slow death sentence. No plant likes tight roots, and once the roots have reached the point where the root/soil mass can be lifted from the pot intact, the plant suffers limitations and stress related to root congestion that are made manifest in growth rate and appearance. That stress/ limiting effect can't be eliminated without repotting; and, repotting is a much more extensive operation than simply potting up, which leaves the plant with the same limitations it had before bumping it up a pot size, even if growth rate temporarily improves slightly. It is POSSIBLE for an experienced and attentive grower to maintain the plant in a pot w/o drain holes, but if don't already know the answer to the question "can you do it?" you would almost certainly be inviting root health/function issues ........ especially with aralia, which demands excellent drainage and a careful hand on the watering can. It likes very bright light, but if you site it in full sun indoors, you'll need a fan to keep air moving to disrupt the boundary air layer and prevent over-heating. Al...See MoreBuilding first home. Comments (5)I think it depends on where you are building. There was a recent thread on here from a gal with zero construction experience who built a beautiful house in 4 months. On the other hand, my husband and I have extensive construction experience and every tool known to mankind and it took us 8 months to get to where we could move in, but we still aren't done. There is a building boom in our town and we had a tough time getting subs. We ended up doing about 50% of the build ourselves. And, even with all of our know-how, mistakes were made. One other thing, we have been on the job site every day since we broke ground. Will you be able to be on site each day? If you want to do research, I would try to familiarize yourself with what goes into building a home and the order things are built. Also, find out what each sub is responsible for in your area. An example is sometimes the plumbers install the gas lines, sometimes the HVAC guys. Be ready for thousands of decisions too. Comments (16)No, I doubt it is a pinguicula. First of all, Home Depot would never get one or sell a pinguicula. Big Box stores buy from Altman or Costa Farms and they even grow those rare varieties. But also, it doesn't look like a pinguicula. It looks too big. I have a pinguicula that has delivered 4 pups, and each one of them is considerably smaller. Check out photos online for Sans ehrenbergii or Sans Blue Kew, or just stream through them and look for something that closely resembles yours. Pinterest is a good source for visual. So it Etsy. I only see one spot and it looks to me like damage from -- who knows? Something mechanical. Don't cut leaves without a lot of thought and knowledge first. Every plant is going to have something a little unslightly. If it isn't a disease, don't reach for your scissors. You have a beautiful Sansevieria here. My advice is.....don't kill it with "kindness." Give it what a Sansevieria needs (fresh air, moderate light or even bright light, fast draining soil, no over-watering) and let it flourish by itself....See More
