Tell about your Weeks, Swim & Weeks, Swim & Ellis Roses
I am including these three in the same thread since there seems to be a connection. Maybe some of you who are more knowledgeable could tell about that.
There are at least four in this group I wouldn't want to be without.
ANGEL FACE Floribunda (Swim & Weeks) - New to me this year, blooms were on the smallish side in the beginning, but put on full size blooms later on, nice fragrance.
DOUBLE DELIGHT. HT (Swim & Ellis) - I love this one, it's always been a good rose for me, and a good bloomer, definitely a favorite, fragrance is always strong.
MISTER LINCOLN HT - (Swim & Weeks) - This one is struggling, but seems to be improving. I am hopeful. No picture.
PERFUME DELIGHT (Weeks) - A very pretty and fragrant rose, blooms don't last long, so I enjoy them while I can.
PARADISE HT (Weeks) - New to me this year, so far I like it, good bloomer, no fragrance.
ARIZONA Grandiflora (Swim & Weeks) - I had this one for several years, and I thought the blooms were pretty, but never exactly what I expected. It was never overly vigorous, no detectable fragrance.

Comments (14)Thanks for the comments everybody. RDH and Anne; Borderer is small and has amazing colored blooms that some liken to a miniature Abraham Darby. They don't last long, a day or so, but there are lots of them. I grow mine in a pot wintered in a cold room. Not sure if it will winter outdoors in zone 5. Went out just after the morning sun had a chance to warm the blossoms in order to do some fragrance evaluations, particularly with respect to The Reeve as requested. The Reeve has a moderately strong sweet fragrance with just a hint of myrrh to my nose. It is quite unique and pleasantly soft. It is not a strong myrrh, a mere trace, only a soupçon. David Austin describes the fragrance as: "strong old rose"; I would disagree. Claire Martin says: "strong and musky". Neither description is very useful. However, if by musky we mean very pleasant, and sweetly compelling, then I would concur. Hope that helps. Since I was out and about and there are more roses opening, please forgive me for posting a few more images. The Yeoman, a very early Austin, 1969. A 4th year band from RVR. Still small and delicate, requires coddling, but building stature. The flowers are gorgeous and the fragrance delightful. A collector rose. The Pilgrim, just opened this morning, strong Tea Rose fragrance and oh so gorgeous. And a new spray of Geoff Hamilton; love the petal packed cups, soft pink and sweetly fragrant An image of Claire Rose, 1986. The blooms of this rose are oft compared to those of Souvenir de la Malmaison and there is a resemblance, though I like CR better and it is certainly more cold hardy for those like me who can't grow the tender SDLM. And finally an old image of Jayne Austin for Boncrow. This is my best image of her. She is like a winter hardy Noisette in my view. Her fragrance is unique, a bit of tar and tobacco infused into Tea Rose, I've also heard it called "phenolic". Sounds awful doesn't it. Comments (5)Ah! I'm a swimmer, with home colored hair  have had/done both for most of my adult life. It sounds like you've got the right agenda: get your hair wet, put on cheap, thick conditioner ('Cholesterol' is a good brand for this) & use a good latex cap. Wash your hair as soon as you're out of the pool; every week or so do a wash with a clarifying shampoo. And, honestly, what ideefixe said. I'm in the pool almost every day, and each of us is waaaay too concerned about how she personally looks to judge anyone. That said, swimmers are nice friendly people; even if you don't know anyone when you start going you'll have locker room and lane-sharing buddies to give you support in no time. Comments (9)There are a lot of factors that go into pricing a pool, maddiesmomma, so you have to be careful you are getting an apples to apples pricing...not apples to oranges. Some builders include more in their basic pricing while others do items as add-ons. Available access to the dig site is one factor that can vary in price. Whether you have an overflow run to the street or not is another. Are they quoting the same equipment? Are they including the same amount of decking around the pool. What material is the decking? Are you wanting a straight line pool or free form? What material do you want for the coping beam? What plaster type? These are just some of the areas that affect the price. It is very hard to get a QUALITY pool built for under $30k, but it can be done if you are willing to go basic and no frills and don't need much walkway or seating area. As to the person who recommended fiberglass to you, that is usually a poor alternative in Houston. Comments (28)I suppose it is an upgrade but that's just a guess....since the situation is progressing in a to a higher level. I hate to hear y'all have progressed to severe. That is not a good sign, particularly in what is normally the wet season. With gardeners, we tend to think of the upper few inches of the soil where we are trying to work the soil, weed, plant, etc. Drought monitoring involves moisture at deeper levels. That's why we gardeners can feel like our gardens are incredibly muddy while the U. S. Drought Monitor shows we are abnormally dry or in one of the drought stages. Your soil type matters too. Our mesonet station has a very different type of soil than what we have, so I have to take those soil moisture measurements with a grain of salt because mine are likely very different from theirs. I tried going shopping and it wasn't fun. I wasn't in the mood to shop for clothes or shoes or anything. It was foggy and misty and icky and chilly so shopping for plants outdoors (I didn't buy any) wasn't fun either. We went to the feed store and bought hen scratch and some sunflower seeds for the cardinals and then stopped at the gas station and at Wal-Mart where we picked up some items to repair the lawnmower's flat tire. That is the extent of our exciting shopping trip. When I cannot be outside working in the lawn and garden in spring, it drives me crazy---but not crazy enough to be out there in the mud and puddles and today's weather. It feels like March today. Maybe that is to make up for some of those March or early April days when it felt like late May....See More

ALABAMA - A pretty rose that gets big blooms and grows about 5ft x 3ft. Decent disease resistance; fair repeat.
AUTUMN GOLD - Very pretty rose. Mine is an own-root from Vintage Gardens many yrs ago. Blooms pretty decently, altho it could repeat better.. maybe if I fed the roses more often... It stays about 2-3ft x 2ft.
BABY TALK - One of my favorites of the "Talk" series. Beautiful light lavender shapely blooms that occasionally get some "oddball"undertones... beigey. Stays very low. like not even 2ft x 2ft.
CALICO - One of my favorites. Unfortunately it doesn't bloom as much as I'd like, but when it does, it's gorgeous. Grows about 4ft x 2ft.
DISCO - A lovely red with white reverse that blooms really well. Unfortunagtely it fries in the hot summer sun tho. Grows about 4-5ft x 2 1/2ft.
INK SPOTS - A gorgeous dark black-red that's hard to accurately photograph. Grows tall... up to 6ft x2-3ft.
PILLOW TALK - My favorite of the "Talk" series... Gorgeous orchid-y mauve with yellow reverse ruffled blooms. Good repeat. Grows about 3ft x 2-3ft.
SMALL TALK - A nice yellow shorty. Grows about the same as the other "Talk" roses. Not more than about 2 1/2ft x 2ft. Great repeat, lots of blooms..
WILD HONEY - a gorgeous light pink blender that I wish would repeat better than it does. Grows about 3ft x 2ft.

8 years agoI only have three, besides Oklahoma and Double Delight which are both gorgeous, my favourite 'love to hate' rose is Sutter's Gold!

8 years agoI just have the two that Sharlene mentioned: Oklahoma and Double Delight.
Oklahoma--love its dark, dark color, but the flower doesn't hold its form very long--gets kinda messy looking.
Double Delight--a must in every garden: beauty and fragrance!
