Comments (2)My island is about the same size. I think it's around 109 x 54" wide. I really like this width. I think either width for you would work. I also have shallow cabinets, maybe 12" or less in the seating area. I think I would put some boxes out or posterboard to see if you can map out the two size differences and see which works best for the room. Here's some pics of my island - they arent great, but theyre all I have stored on the computer for now. Your house looks awesome, btw!...See MoreBig Reveal: Mid-Century Ikea and SemiHandmade
Comments (99)KL, Your new kitchen is spectacular. Thank you so much for sharing in such detail. I am thinking I ought to do the same, as I am just at the planning stages of my project. I am wondering how your kitchen is holding up after 8 months. I am considering going with IKEA boxes and semi-handmade in my kitchen reno, but worry about the durability of the Ikea drawers, slides, and hinges. Are you still happy with them? Also I am curious about what cabinet material you chose. I am guessing that SemiHandmade in Flatsawn Walnut is a veneer, right? How is it looking 8 months on? I am trying to make my budget work and am tempted to save on cabinets because it's just such a big ticket item. Are you still happy with your choice? Also, how do you like the FP fridge?...See MoreMid Century Modern Kitchen Reno Ideas - Help with cabinet color
Comments (20)I love the look of your kitchen, especially the brick wall. (I'd streamline the decor on those shelves and probably look for a vintage metal art piece or sunburst clock for that wall.) My main advice though has to do with the flooring. Slate looks great but I wouldn't replace wood or vinyl for it. Stone and tile are terribly hard on the joints. I really regret my tile kitchen floors. YMMV but thought I'd mention it. Hope you'll post your changes. It's going to look great!...See MoreHelp me make a mid century mid century modern
Comments (13)Read the Housetweaking blog from early 2011 through 2016/2017 or so. Dana and her husband bought an old, ugly midcentury and DIYed it into a really cool space - keeping the midcentury vibe but not being 100 percent married to it and doing it on a budget. They've moved on to a different house but all the old posts are still on the site. https://www.housetweaking.com/current-house/...See MoreRelated Professionals
