Bosch DW gives off funny smell after several days of non-use....
Comments (149)I have a Bosch 800 series with Crystal Dry, same odor problem others are experiencing. This dishwasher replaced a 30+ year old Whirlpool that never smelled, ever. I rinse dishes first because I run the dw once every 6 days or so. Did a thorough cleaning of the filter, below the filter, the walls etc. Used Cascade dw cleaner this weekend, which did a super job of cleaning, but as far as the odor issue, it's back, now with an overlay of the strongly perfumed Cascade cleaner, which makes it worse because when I open the dw door to air it out, my kitchen smells like the dw cleaner, which I don't really care for. As far as the residual water, Bosch CS told me that it was an intentional part of the design, to prime the pump for the next use? However, I'm wondering if it's the crystals causing the issue, by absorbing odors and then releasing them after several days into the dishwasher? Thoughts? Very frustrated, because dishwashers are nothing new - the first one was invented in 1850 according to the internet. Would much rather have one that just cleans the dishes, than one with all the bells and whistles that smells....See MoreKitchen Sink Caulking - Botched Job Options
Comments (15)Thanks everyone for your feedback. Glad to know the harness isn't needed - makes sense. I honestly don't know if he used silicone or not - I guess I can ask just to know how to move forward. He just said he "had to caulk it because the clips didn't fit." I am not set on using silicone, I just want to use whatever is appropriate to use. A couple follow-up questions: 1. Would removing the sink mean TOTALLY uninstalling everything? (faucet, disposal, etc.) - obviously I'm no plumber haha so forgive me if this is a dumb question 2. Will acetone damage the laminate tops if we got some on there? 3. What's the Windex for? @Jake the Wonderdog - don't worry, I won't be beating him up over anything b/c as I said, he's done good work for us. I honestly hesitated to post anything here b/c too often people's responses on forums like this are "throw a fit and make them fix it" and that just isn't my style haha....See MoreBad Caulk Job, blue caulk turning pink?
Comments (19)What a messy, ugly job. That's junior-grade handyman level work you have there. In my experience, regardless of the material, most tradespeople don't follow the installation instructions to the letter. However, experienced ones read them so they know what they should do, and through that experience they've learned what they can do and still get an acceptable job. It doesn't appear that your installer is one of them. "Certified installer," yeah, right. So he screwed up, and now he's stonewalling you about making the job right. That's money out of his pocket, and he thinks bluster and BS will discourage you enough that you'll give up.. Time to call an attorney. I expect you're going to need one....See MorePainting Help - Charging for non-paintable surfaces?
Comments (24)You have very right to educate yourself and ask questions regarding an estimate. A contractor/painter should be able to explain to you their charges. Yes, if you see a $25 roll of tape you should ask why? Older contractors are set in their ways but today anybody can research pricing as you are very quickly. What would be wrong with a client seeing a mis charge and it being corrected? What I dont like is somone telling me what or how to do something as if they are not comfortable with the work they should be using some one else. I see the who cares attitude and will tell you that will only get worse when issues have to be corrected. Just think how they will be to deal with if the work hasn't even started yet and they are being confrontational. I am shocked that people promote themselves like that on here with the high flow of traffic. Nobody is that good and there is always better. Aura is a waste of money. Ask the painter what they recommend. Also do not nickel and dime a painter just use somone else. I really ever negotiate a sub because i make it 100% clear that i am not and i expect perfection. This way they can never say well I cut this or that. Go see their work in person not pictures and then decide what price you like and don't worry about every line entry. Seeing their work and work ethic might more than justify the higher price. Getting paint on new floors, tile, etc can cost a lot more in the end....See MoreUser
