Problems with grey grout and carrara?
Comments (6)We just finished our kitchen floor with carrara 12x12 and light grey grout and I think it looks good. We picked a grey that that was the medium grey in the carrara and it just visually goes right into the background and all you see is stone. The grout color certainly didn't bleed into the stone. However, we have a honed finish and it was much, much harder to get the grout wiped off cleanly than it would have been with ceramic. If your contractor is seeing grey around the edges, I suspect he just hasn't been taking the time to really clean the tiles well. Comments (6)As glad posted, we used gray grout, but I'm not sure what kind or what color. The tile guy just presented me with the choices and I picked one. I didn't write down what it was. I used flat white subway tiles in the upstairs bedrooms and the first tile guy I had grouted it white (after I had repeatedly told our builder I wanted gray grout). To me, it looked terrible. To me, the pattern is the point of the subway tile and if you don't use a contrasting grout the pattern is lost. Needlesstosay, the tile guy had to dig out all the white grout and start over. We had a new and much better tile guy by the time we got to the kitchen and the laundry....See MoreWhat is the rationale for grey grout with white subway tile?
Comments (36)Oh Bill, Bill.....trying to distract you again here. The grout colorant you mentioned says it can be used inside or outside...I think? Does that mean it would work for a problem with a "mortar" color on an exterior entryway? A portion of our flagstone topped landing coming in the front door of our house had to be torn out as it was not square. The mortar color of the part that was redone does not match the other part. We had a brown colorant mixed into the mortar for the entire project, but the redo came from a different bag and is darker. I don't know if there is a difference between "inside grout" and "outside mortar" as far as this colorant goes. Do you know? Thank you, Mr. Bill, for any help....See Moredo you have an opinion about cream tile with grey grout?
Comments (8)I think grey grout with white or cream tiles and any soapstone is terrific. Were I you, however, I would get the tile installed but not grouted, take a photo, load it onto something even as basic as Paint, and "paint" grout in to see what works best for your kitchen. Once you decide whether the grout should match or contrast with the tile, you can mess with the color. Cheers....See MorePat Oliver Interior Design
