Does anyone knows if I can buy a freestanding cabinet that I can use to store vacuum cleaner and brooms ?

Sure. Anything set up as a coat closet will work.

Anna, Ours were in plain view before too, so I was really excited to plan for 2 18" pantries to flank our fridge, planning on one to be the 'broom' closet. WEll, I didn't check for the height of the bottom pantry cabinet (as the one in our previous home was tall enough). It was a wee bit too short for a regular broom, but luckily the new micro-fibre mops come on adjustable length handles, so I could make mine short enough to fit. I also didn't think about the fact that with brooms/vacuum attachments on one side, I wouldn't be able to attach pullout shelves. So, I ordered a 'side-mount' pull-out pantry from Lee Valley and used a 'clip' to hold broom on the other side. I have my baskets loaded up with 'broom closet' paraphernalia, extension cords, shoe polish, light bulbs, spare mopheads, etc.

basically a bookcase w/ doors, just a narrow one, right? w/ no shelves. Any unfinished-furniture place should be able to make you one. Ikea has a line of bookcases called Billy; some come w/ doors. They'll be shallower--probably 12". "pantry" might be another term, but sometimes pantry cabinets aren't quite tall enough to hold a broom. here's one that's not white, but it's the right size http://www.homefocuscatalog.com/Parent.asp?product=263393x You might also look into Mills Pride cabinets at Home Depot (you now have to order them, but I think you can still get them there), and see if they've got an 18" tall pantry cabinet. here's their kitchen product catalog--see page 21. but perhaps the middle shelf is fixed, which might create a problem. Perhaps you could simply not attach it, though the sidewalls of my bathroom cabinet this shape are in two pieces. You'd need to ask them how it's put together, to see if you could leave the middle shelf out. I did a type of utility/broom cabinet where we lined the doors with magnetic markerboard. Once the size of the doors was determined, I ordered the board online from US Markerboard -- they cut it to size. The cabinet maker framed it out on the inside of the doors. I don't remember where I got the idea from, but my cabinet maker hadn't done anything like that before that either. Since then, though, he has used the idea a few times. We lined the back of the cabinet with pegboard so everything can be moved around if necessary. Love the magnetic markerboard. It puts the clutter out of sight.

See what your cabinet provider can offer. I wouldn't want to cut out the toe kick (it might affect the cabinet's stability and certainly the warranty.) It sounds like what you need is a framed alcove (similar to the space for a refrigerator, just smaller), with a cabinet door that goes to the floor. It doesn't seem like that should be too tough, but you'd want to make sure it's in your plan and specifications. You also need to consider the flooring for that particular spot. If the current spot has a cabinet on it and the flooring stops at the toe kick rather than going underneath (not uncommon for tile, I think), then you'll need to add something for a floor for your broom closet.

This will probably run $100 for the plain white ones basically big enough for several brooms--I don't know how big the vacuum is--or more for an attractive one. One thing to watch out for is that they need to be tall enough.

And a lot of them that are sold as "broom cabinets" are 16" wide and 16" deep. That's usually exterior, so subtract 1.5" and get a 14.5"-square space.

Some uprights are 13" square, so it'll be tight fitting the vacuum in.

One of the Dyson's is 17.5" across.

So measure, before you commit.

You can hang the brooms on the inside of the door, or on the wall beside the vacuum. But it might get pretty tight.

If the things you find when you google "broom cabinet" are too small, you might consider looking for a wardrobe or armoire. They're slightly more money, but they'll have more space. And they may come in more attractive finishes (though those will definitely be more money).

Buying a tall 15" deep Ikea sektion cabinet to use as a vacuum closet upstairs. Lots of door options to go with your decor.

I don't have space for a vacuum in a closet in my house at this point. It lives behind a door and is quite out of the way. This mainly proves that my closets have a long way to go before the are ready for prime time. But the location is very convenient!
