Opinions on Four Door French Door vs. Side by Side
Comments (2)I have a LG 36' 25 cu ft French door with bottom freezer. I did a few measurements and I think you'll be just fine with your space when it comes to having enough room to open doors. With my refrigerator doors closed I have 35" clearance between the door and the counter in front of it. 32" if you go from the handle to the counter. I have no problen standing in front of the fridge with the doors open. When I pull out the freezer drawer all the way I have 18 1/2" of space between the drawer and cabinet. I also have no problem rooting around in the freezer in this amount of space, but I do find I usually stand to the right of the freezer when I pull the drawer all the way open, instead of directly in front of it. When I'm just grabbing a handful of ice or something I stand in the front. It works well for me, and I much prefer the french door style to my old side by side that used to be in the same spot. Double check your measurements. The new 36" fridges are not the same size as the older models. We had to pull out the wood baseboards to get the new fridge in the old spot....See MoreHelp with selection of appliances....! !
Comments (19)We just went through this and here is what we ended up with: KA french door/bottom freezer fridge: wanted 36" w/bottom freezer and not many make that size. Dishwasher: electrolux. The european brands tend to be a bit smaller on the inside and I didn't feel I needed to spend the extra money on the bosch. rangetop: capital. double ovens: miele. Wanted GE Monogram but salesman talked me out of it. He felt that the older Monograms that were made by other brands are much better than the newer version that are made by GE in Mexico. He then pushed the Electrolux but the inside is a little smaller than some other brands and the Icon (which I liked better) lets you see into the oven at all times. Not the best for a messy housekeeper! I felt that if the oven window was dirty that it would make the whole thing feel dirty. He then suggested Thermador which gets killed on this site. He also suggested DCS which is what he himself has. I was all set on that until we realized that the newer models (made by Fisher Paykel) are significantly smaller than the current models. Also FP is having major financial issues in Australia and I got a little nervous. So, I spent more money than I wanted and ended up with the Miele. It seems like if you're not going top tier (wolf, viking) then there isn't much differentiation between the Monogram/thermador/electrolux/KA,etc. other than look. There aren't too many options that are inbetween those tiers....See MoreFinal Push on appliances, please help
Comments (2)I don't know if I can be of any help to you but here's what I have on order for our new kitchen remodel. I bought the Electrolux EWE3085EPS 30 inch double wall oven which it seems you are considering. I didn't pick the Turkey Probe Model from Electrolux because of the bottom rack scraping the open oven door and not being able to put the gliding rack all the way to the bottom position. I also felt I didn't need all the bells and whistles of that model. As for the sxs refrigerator, I don't like them. I bought the Kenmore Elite French Door Model 25 cu feet with the large party tray...I might add that I already had this refrig and just rebought it in stainless w/a few updates from my model. That's how much I love it. As for the 36' Induction Cooktop. I bought a Thermador. I really wanted the Electrolux Model, but did not like all the stainless steel trim around the cooktop and around the controls...All I envisioned was scratching the stainless trim ... too much of it and I would not be the only one cooking on it and being careful. Thermador has trim on top and bottom but not on the sides. I understand it is a flush mount unit, although underneath might need some clearance which could effect any plans you might have for a utensils drawer directly under your cooktop. On a side note, I love the french door refrigerators. Everything is at eye level in the frig which you utilize many times a day. The bottom pull over freezer is fine...I choose a dinner item and veg and that's it for opening it except if you need ice. I have the water inside the frig and that too is fine w/us...front stays uncluttered. We also bought a dishwasher...Kenmore model, but outside of the frig, we don't have any of these appliances delivered yet. Hope this somehow helps you....See MoreFrench door fridge opinion
Comments (7)I'm using a standard depth, FD fridge for the first time in our temporary house. I thought I would love it since they are so popular. I do not. I usually end up opening both sides anyway because either I can't remember where the item I'm looking for is, or someone moved said item, or because I can't rummage around though a produce door with only one door open. I feel too cramped. Whatever the case, it feels like an extra step to have to open and then close two doors. Even though this fridge is standard depth, I still need an extra fridge in the garage. The fridge for my new kitchen is a bottom freezer, single door. I dislike French door units, but in some cases a kitchen layout works best with one. Also, I thought that I just needed to spend more time using a French door to get used to it. It's been almost a year, and I still don't like it. YMMV. As far as whether or not a fridge can be next to a pantry, it depends in many factors. Are they side by side with each other or at a 90 degree angle? Is the pantry a walk-in with a door or a cabinet pantry? What type of cabinetry? Will you have a filler in between the two? I suggest you post your kitchen layout here or over in the Kitchens forum to get feedback on that issue....See MoreLaurie Gordon
