Hate my Samsung WA5471AB washer & dryer!
Comments (61)This recall is about users selecting the wrong cycle (Normal or Heavy Duty) when washing bulky or waterproof/resistant items such as bedding (comforters, mattress pads, bedspreads), shower curtains, sleeping bags, parkas, and the like. Every video I've seen on YouTube or news feeds covering an exploded washer that still has the load in it, the item(s) are as such. The explosion happens when the machine balances for spin, revs up to maximum 1,000 RPM (or whatever it may be), and the balance condition shifts due to sudden release of a pocket of retained water from the item. The manufacturer is cited as being at fault for not designing a safety system to stop the spin. Seriously ... there's NO WAY to INSTANTLY stop the mass of the washer drum and clothes load from spinning at 1,000 RPM (or higher in some cases). The electronics and sensors did their job for balancing the load at the start of spin. There's no way to anticipate that the balance conditions would change. The recall involves adding a security bracket to further secure the machine top, AND stickers that 1) relabel the cycles such that the Delicate cycle is designated for Bulky/Bedding, 2) warn that catastrophic damage may occur if the wrong cycle is used for such items, and 3) that waterproof items are not to be washed. Delicate runs a slower spin speed which serves to avoid the high g-forces and catastrophic explosion if balance conditions change after-the-fact at higher spin speeds....See MoreFrom open houses today - slipcovered washer and dryer
Comments (45)I don't think they are any more ridiculous than those lamp chain scruncies! These are functional things.. same with TV's... I see no reason to be obsessive about hiding them...people go overboard with painting any sort of thing that is one the walls... a functional thing to have it blend in, and disappear. There is areason, light switches stand out.. it is so you can find them.. and even find them in an emergency. Your guests, as well. They will not be familiar with where they are, the same as would. Although, you would be surprised how little you really know your house in a fire, or a blackout......See MoreShould My Dryer Be Installed B4 My Speed Queen Washer?
Comments (3)It's a lot easier to install the dryer first so you have room to get back there to attach the venting. Otherwise, if you install the dryer at a later date, you'll probably have to move the SQ out of the way (esp. in your closet situation) and the SQ is a heavy beast...plus deal with the water hoses and drain hose on the washer....See MoreWhat could be causing my dryer to continually burn out?
Comments (9)Excellent example of how easily kinks can be overlooked dadoes. Also good information when you point out duct can extend far beyond where flex ends at wall. The clog may very well be inside wall where duct take's a turn right, left, down or up. cat_ky , I only addressed whole house system because "someone" Said. "Since this happens repeatedly, with different dryers, it has to be something with the house, and that something has the potential to be a fire hazard. Please get a licensed electrician into your house asap, to check things out. My whole house surge protector is outside and connected somewhere by the meter, it doesnt interfere with my indoor electric. Had the same thing at the last house, where it was outside. Both were put in by the electric company, themselves. Another thought is, are you using the same cord, from dryer to dryer? It could be the dryer cord itself, if you have been doing that. Either way, something is shorting out and causing the dryer to go out, and could be a fire hazard" I believe it's too early to hire an electrician out of fear the place might catch fire. If there's reason to panic about possible fire,it is 100 times more likly due to lint than an electrical mal-function. It has been my observation most people coming here with questions do so to avoid spending unneccessary money on pros if they can fix it themselves. Rarly is a problem more suited for diy than this one. It's only a matter of making sure a pipe isn't clogged with lint (something I've seen more times than I can recall) but over a period of decades I've never once saw a heating element burn out due to over/under current EXCEPT in the event of lightning strike that burned out lights, appliances and electronic equipment at same time. Based on what personal experience or ohm's law, lead;s you to believe op can't fix this, should throw in the towel and call an electrician? If you are going to waffle then try and invalidate me you at least owe an explaination of why....See Moredadoes
