Kenmore HE4T drainage issues...

Hi all - thanks for your help in advance.

I am hoping someone can help
me reason out some problems and questions I have with my HE4T (below).
But first, just for other's future reference, here are a couple great
threads for HE4T code-problems:

The
problem I'm having right now is that I just had to manually turn off my
machine because it just wouldn't stop: it was scary! I swear that
drum could fly right off the hinges, couldn't it, and cream anyone in
the drum's path....I was scared peering at the machine from in front of
it.

Q: is the housing to the right of the water/lint trap mentioned in the
second thread above a water pump?

I think it must be because water that
has been spun from the tub must still have to move away from the
machine and that would have to be via active, pumping removal....
If so, then it must be that after spinning for ages and failing to stop,
and with clothes not fully dry still, then opening the water/lint trap
cap and getting large amounts of water flowing from the *right* side
where that square box housing is ... this tells me that must be the
water pump and it is not working -- right?
Note that the water/lint trap was not plugged because I had cleaned it
out earlier.

Q: if there a way to test whether the water pump isn't working? Am I
correct, though, that the following is evidence the pump may not be well
-- when the machine starts to spin it starts making a clacking sound
that is increasingly rapid with increasing rpms -- this means a motor is
dying, right?

TIA!!
