Quilt from school t-shirts
Comments (12)Hi June, I've made several t-shirt quilts. Yes, you do need to back the streachy t-shirts. I use a light-weight fusible interface. You can get it at stores like Joann's. Cut the back of the shirt from the front by cutting up the sides of the shirt and across the shoulders. Iron the fusible to the wrong side of the part of the shirt with the logo. Some logos are on the front, some on the back. I put the logo face down on the ironing board, place the interfacing on top (be sure the fusible side of the interfacing is down). Place a teflon pressing sheet over the fusible web and press. Do not let the iron touch the logo as many will melt. I cut the interfacing a couple inches larger than needed so I can square up easier. Once fused, cut out the t-shirt logo to whatever size you want. I'd measure the largest logo and cut the rest to that size, centering the logos within that dimension. My first quilt blocks were 12 1/2". My next one contained all different size blocks from 3" - 9". I've also fused interfacing to the unused side of the t-shirt, cut strips and used it to enlarge smaller blocks. Sue...See MoreDo You Wear T-Shirts With...
Comments (27)Shouldn't they sell the shirts with the company name/logo ... ... for half price?? (Instead of double ... due to their so-called ... and much vaunted ... great rep)?! And made, in almost all cases, for peanuts ... by (almost) slave labour. ole joyful P.S. I have one, don't know where it appeared from, as I haven't been anywhere within a dozen miles of that agency, captioned, "U.S. NAVY". There's one put out by my Dad's family, that have had an annual family reunion for over 110 years ... and one from Mom's, that began reunions every three years, about 30 years ago (most recent one was at brother's farm in Saskatchewan). Wear 'em to the gathering. o j...See MoreShirts or T-Shirts?
Comments (13)There are occasions when nice shirts are the appropriate thing to wear (either with non-jean pants or a skirt). Going to religious services, a funeral, a job interview, or to certain jobs. But I have a feeling that more people are just deciding to go casual (more casual than "Friday casual" at work) for even these things. One place you might check with to see if they're interested in the nice shirts are places that help women get back in the workforce by providing job-interview clothes. Not the traditional consignment shops -- Junior League clubs and the like sometimes have that as their project....See MoreTee-shirt quilt
Comments (17)I cut a 1 1/2 inch wide black strips, sewed a 1 1/2 inch square of the background to the ends. Then sewed a strip to the left side (background piece up) and to the bottom (background piece to the right). Then I played with blocks and background fabric to get squares that are the same size. If the tee-shirts had all been the same size I would have used a solid background. But I had to use pieces to adjust the sizes of the blocks, so wanted a pattern to help hide the seams. I always wanted to try it and was inspired by the one Jennifer did at the retreat....See More- 10 years ago
