Comments (45)I know we've moved on to January landscapes now, but I just wanted to comment on some of the gorgeous winterscapes that I admired but was too busy with holiday stuff to write about. NHBabs, the photos of your trees covered in snow are breathtaking. They look like antique postcards, the colors almost muted to black & white. I love the lights on the spirals too. I love your snow skirt decorated in maple leaves, PM, although I imagine it has disappeared under a much wider blanket of snow now. Isn't it fun to see the animal tracks in the snow, Pixie? It is almost like the snow becomes a hidden camera for activity that otherwise goes unseen. And Claire, your Christmas lights against the backdrop of ocean are magical. Water adds such a dimension of beauty to any landscape, but especially to a landscape of lights; I guess it is the contrast between warm and cold that does it. And your water is the mightiest of all! It has to be wonderful to have the great Atlantic ocean in your back yard. Now moving on to January, and trying to shovel and snow blow myself out of the January snowscape... Comments (18)CP, with Design 2.0 IF this moves forward, I will have MORE space than the original BIG garage. We KNOW going in that down the road, someone MIGHT demolish the house and build a big 2 story and then again they MIGHT NOT. It's an unknown. What we do KNOW now is that IF we do not go with Design 2.0, we will NOT be afforded the views we would like to have and that's a given. ZERO DOUBT. It is a gamble we are willing to take. IF we just said forget it and did Plan B and built in a fashion with NO views, we'd have a great house but no view. However, I would always be wondering "what IF" no one ever did a thing with the house and it remained a single story. With the current thought process, we know going in if this works we will have a view from day one. We also know that it IS possible that MAYBE someday we will not have the view. Going this route will give us a great house and worst case scenario would be NO view, that puts us right back to where we are now IF we went with Plan B - NO VIEW. Bpath, I do agree that hopefully the curb appeal will improve. As of now, the house is not on the market. The attorney for the estate has indicated there are NO plans to do anything with that house in regards to selling it. All in all and the absolute WORST possibility is that the house sells and it is leveled and the new owners build a BIG 2 story house, we get no view. In direct comparison IF we were to build with some modifications to the ORIGINAL plan to so it would be within our build budget, we are right back to square ONE from day ONE, NO VIEW at all. So either we build with changes and we KNOW there is NO VIEW or, we make some changes and get that VIEW knowing full well that MAYBE some day we get NO VIEW or, MAYBE NOT. I am willing to take that risk. I've spent time doing research and without going into a tremendous amount of detail, I feel this is the best option to obtain what we want. My opinion mind you. As far as Design 2.0, if this comes to fruition you'll see exactly what I am referring to once it's done....See MoreGrout color selection for shower/tub walls, mosaic and floor
Comments (1)I think matching the colors would be appropriate... Snow White and bright white are all preference based decisions... I would probably research manufactures for grout so you can make an educated decision Grouts are generally classified as sanded (cementitious) or unsanded. Both can be used indoors or out and on walls or floors. Use sanded grout for grout joints 1/8 inch up to 5/8 inch. Use unsanded grout for grout joints up to 1/8 inch. Grout is available premixed and ready to use or in powder form (mixed with water as you need it). If you use powdered grout, take care not to use too much water when mixing as this could weaken the grout. Read and follow the product instructions carefully. Acrylic grout is an option for wet areas. It's intended to be mildew-resistant and retains its color well. Epoxy grout is perhaps less DIY-friendly than the other grouts available. It's a common choice for countertops due to its hardness. Epoxy grout doesn't need to be sealed Regarding color choices ... Use grout to match or contrast your tile color – the choice is yours. Unless sealed, lighter colors often show stain more easily. Darker grouts may fade over time. Make sure your grout color can be used with your tile. More porous tiles could absorb coloring from the grout. Tintable grouts are a newer option to pre-colored grout in indoor applications. Tints are added to a light or dark grout base for a custom color. Sealing grout as a final step prevents staining and keeps out moisture. Make sure you get the correct sealer for your grout and that the grout has cured before you apply it. See the grout package label for details. Good Luck !!
