fruit tree watering frequency
Comments (4)Confused: You can tell your water table by digging a hole. Trouble is that a high water table is anything around 3-8ft deep, so you might need a very deep hole. In a clay loam soil, 6-8 ft would be considered a high water table and you would need little irrigation. In a sandy soil, 3-6ft would be the same. If you have a high water table it should be common knowledge in your area. The Fruitnut...See Morelots of pic's
Comments (5)John, you are doing a great job. I like the Miracle Fruit tree, have you harvested any fruit? Was the Kumquat difficult to root? Have you looked at potting your citrus in coconut husk chips (CHC)? They provide a large particle size, which helps with aeration of the root system, yet they don't break down nearly as fast as pine bark. They hold 7 times their weight in water, yet they drain very well and so it is hard to over water. I use 3 parts CHC, 1 part peat, 1 part composted manure, with Osmocote Plus. They are supposed to work well on orchids and other plants that require good aeration of the root system. There are some other particulars, email me if you are interested in sources, details and links. Keep up the good work. Robert...See MoreScore! Citrus $5 clearance at Lowes!
Comments (12)Hah, me, too!!! My husband has just learned to roll his eyes at this point. I found a Nules clementine from Duarte Nursery. Been looking for a Nules clementine. Now, if I can just find a California Honey mandarin, I'm set for mandarins. And, I have gotten my Sumo mandarin seed to sprout. I have 3 little sprouts growing. Getting ready to move it into my new greenhouse to get it a little bigger. Then I'll very carefully separate the seedlings, and see if I can get 3 Depokan seedlings to continue growing. Comments (5)My collection grew over the weekend. I picked up a Meiwa Kumquat and a Minneola Tangelo. I did not see any of the other suggestions. A Page Mandarin seems like something I should add if I can find one. This was the first time I heard of a Sanbokan Sweet Lemon. My internet searches only found it available in a few places in FL....See Morecalamondindave
