The empty white space was caused by posts that had html tags in the preview window. If you don't see those tags, you won't get the white space. Ok. "While that may be an option on other forums, I think we want to be as transparent as possible. Even if a post was only edited for a typo or clarification, it just seems like the right thing to do." I wholeheartedly agree. In fact, on the Exchange Forums I would have liked for there to be no edit feature, since an occasionally shifty trader could edit their posts. Like offering cuttings, versus rooted cuttings, or offering this instead of that, etc. I know many wanted to be able to edit trade posts, but if they wanted to change what they had to offer, or what they were looking for, they could just update their trade lists...but oh well. Not my problem, since I am no longer actively trading on the Exchanges at this time. I know you said, "There is always a log kept of the original post. " but I doubt if anyone would want to go to the time and trouble to find out what an 'original' post said, unless they were out mega bucks and plants, iykwim. Sue

First registered on November 15, 2005. --------- I'm glad the programming is gone. I had posted something yesterday, and the green linky was in it and I freaked out. I thought GW would blame me that *I* put the linky in the post. I thought some virus had invaded my computer and all my posts had links in them sending people to porn sites or mortgage refinancing places. I do know that a lot of blogs have that system in them to make money, but I had never seen it done on a mainstream site before.

In many ways it is a good thing I think. It makes you think more about what you are going to post. Plus, the archive of information going back years on the forums is very valuable, not just recent discussions. If I Google almost anything links to Gardenweb are sure to be in the list. If the original poster gets irritated with another poster or the site itself and decides to just go deleting and drastically editing old posts, it makes all the replies completely out of context. Most sites do allow you to contact an admin to delete or edit a post if it really important. That is what the little flag icon is for. The same goes for pictures. I understand that a lot of people want control over their images, but once you hit that submit button and post them online...they are available for anyone to save. I hate finding a really interesting discussion only to find all the picture links are broken because someone deleted or moved their pictures. It makes all the remaining discussion that took place about the pictures meaningless. I used to embed code to post most of my pictures for more options, but I try not to break those links after the fact. One day I'm sure something will change with my photo host though and make my embedded photos disappear. I won't be able to go back and fix the embed code in the posts. That is probably a main reason they are no longer allowing embedding images.
