IÂve grown some of those, and the only ones I would grow again are Brandywine Sudduth and Cherokee Purple. Maybe worth the bother, even if you only get one or two tomatoes per bush for the season. As commented above, Stupice produces lots of supermarket flavored fruit. Jaune Flammee never sweetened up for me, stayed sour the whole season. Heidi was okay, but there are better tasting red cherry tomatoes. White Queen was pretty blah. Coustralee didnÂt produce anything. Other tomato varieties are just better. Goose Creek produced the earliest crop of large, flavorful tomatoes, took a short summer break, rebloomed in the fall, and is still green, loaded with medium and small fruit, while most everything else is frozen dead. San Marzano Redorato produced a small but steady crop of pasta tomatoes that made the most wonderful dried tomatoes in the dehydrator, for my sonÂs "sun dried tomato" recipes popular now. The flavor is far superior to the expensive bottles of dried tomatoes in the store. IÂve been ordered to plant lots of bushes again next year. Sun Sugar is the most wonderful yellow cherry tomato- one I would never be without. Momotaro has the best flavor for me of the large tomatoes, but doesnÂt produce much. The next best large tomato is Brandy Boy. It produced a good crop of large, tasty tomatoes early and consistently throughout the season. Your tastes may differ.

We are in the banana belt of Idaho; it isn't exactly a frozen tundra ;). I checked the 2006 hardiness zone chart actually puts us in Zone 7, though I still consider our area to be Zone 6. Everything I've read says that the hardier figs do fine in Zone 6 with some protection. Over the past four winters, we've usually never dipped below 10 degrees, but did experience a few nights of negative temps in December this year. That is a rare enough occurrence that if I put a fig in the ground near the house, I could put Christmas lights on it, with additional protection over the top. I am also fine with it just growing as a shrub; I don't expect a big beautiful tree like I had in California. I also have a small greenhouse, and was thinking that I could grow a fig in a pot for a few years and overwinter it in the greenhouse and then transplant it when it is a little bigger, and hopefully hardier. I am leaning towards a Petit Negri potted on the back deck, but I might also get a Chicago and put it in the ground and just see how it does. It's OK if the plant dies to the ground and doesn't produce fruit every single year. Thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate the help!

The fruits are bright red, weigh about an ounce, and are smaller than most cherry tomatoes (½ by ¾ inches). Since they are mouth-sized they are perfect for salads and garnish plates. Twelve to sixteen fruits per cluster. Marianna's Peace 85 days, indeterminate  Reportedly a family heirloom from Czechoslovakia dating back to the early 1900s. Potato leaf foliage. Fruit are deep reddish pink, good size weighing around a pound, good sweet / acid balance flavor, very meaty and a shy seeded variety like Brandywine. This variety has been rare, highly sought after since its introduction in about 2001. It is becoming widely available and finally affordable. LivingstonÂs Favorite - (90 days) Indeterminate, 6 to 10 ounce smooth fruit with exceptional flavor and color. Introduced by Livingston in 1883. Originally developed for canners, they withstood shipping over long distances and had desirable market qualities. LivingstonÂs Magnus - Indeterminate, potato leaf with six to eight ounce oblate, pink fruit, excellent taste. Introduced by the Livingston Seed Company in 1900. Its attractive shape, large size and excellent table qualities has quickly brought it into deserved popularity among backyard gardeners. Market-growers are finding it in great demand. There is now great rivalry in gardening neighborhoods to see who can grow the finest Oxheart in shape and size. Three pound specimens are quite common. One customer sent us a five pound specimen. The Oxheart is smooth, thick, tender and almost seedless; frequently showing two inches thick without a seed cavity. Yes, climate and chill hours needed ... also Peach Leaf Curl should be considered. I would ask around a couple nurseries or the local extension and find out if is an issue in your area. Those varieties you list would get destroyed by curl in our Nor Cal orchard ... with diligent sprayings of fungicide they could do ok but would always be alot of work and a problem. There are good tasting curl resistant peach trees ... not at Lowe's.
