My Old Man Cactus lost it's roots...
Comments (3)I'd check the nearest lost and found first, might get lucky and find those missing roots. This is one of those tricky ones but I think that you will probably have to do some surgery as it is likely the roots rotted up to the base of the stem and stopped. If you can't see any rot in the stem at all you may get lucky and it will send out new roots from the base. I agree that you should not set it back in the soil till you have "seen the light" and know for certain that no rot what-so-ever exists in the stem. If in doubt you will have to slice off the lower most tip of the stem and inspect. If it has no rot and the stem is not compromised or sliced open it will send out roots in an effort to save itself. You can get those little green bamboo sticks at the garden center and lash it to two or three sticks and push the sticks into a pot leaving the base of the cactus suspended in air above the soil and keep an eye on it. If in a months time it sends out some roots then you can lower the stem till it is touching the soil and slowly start a watering program. These hairy cacti are very water sensitive in Winter and must be kept very dry in a fast draining sandy mix in a well lit area. In Summer they like the great outdoors and liberal watering and lots of sun. Keep us posted on this IC patient. -Joe...See MoreLost A Hiking/Camping Buddy
Comments (9)A big thank you to everyone who responded to my post. Your words mean so much. I feel as though I know many of you here and that makes it very special to me. You will probably not believe it but I lost another brother March 28th. He was ill most of his life and cancer took him among other health problems. You do not have to respond as I know all of you are thinking of me and that is what counts. It has really been a tough year for me and my family! Goodness, I am so ready to go camping! Going to try for the first weekend in June. Thanks again for your words. Jo...See MoreLost my 27-year old son to a horrific accident
Comments (8)please accept my sympathy to you and your family. i think it doesn't matter when you have lot someone that feeling never goes away. in afew weeks i will have been a widow for 4 years. everyday i think of my husband. i remember what we had for supper the night before (roast and veggies) and i haven't made or eaten it since. i still wear my 3 diamond ring he gave me for our 25th anniv. still proudly with my wedding band on my left hand. i also rec'd a diamond tennis bracelet for my 50th bd (all ths jewellery within 2 months of his passing) along with a puppy gracie joy devine (i swore we would never have another pet) i live in northern ontario so i know about cold and snow today it was minus 43! i walk 21/2 miles one way everyday to visit him at the cemetery. i hate him for leaving me. my husband was just loved by everyone, he had that kind of personality. our son hAS taken over some of his dads traits like volunteering etc. and i don't think our daughter will ever get over losing her date, she was home when the firetrucks and ambulance came to the house, but she has learned to be a nicer person. life is so funny those mean people we all know seem to live forever and ever. it took me about a year to mention Al's name but now i make sure that the kids (well 22 and 27) hear atleast one story about their dad. again i'm sorry for your loss...See MoreI lost my 12yr old son
Comments (4)monaclare,my son hung himself on shoe laces little over 5 years ago. He was 23. I know how you feel and no amount of words will calm your pain but I am terribly sorry for your loss. Take day by day, if you feel like crying, cry, talk or scream but don't keep things inside. You will be numb, you'll go through many steps. Greeving is a long process, don't be ashamed of your emotions. Time will eventually ease the pain. If you need help, call someone. Group therapy wasn't for me but it might help you through. Don't ask questions, many times there are no answers, don't torture yourself w/thoughts of quilt. You have to go on b/c that's what your son would want. It is tragic accident and I hope you'll get through ....See Morepamghatten
