Which antivirus multiple devices

I have 3 devices I need to install antivirus on, one is an old desktop running XP was running MS security essentials, then when MS stopped servicing XP I went to AVG, second device is a dell mini 10 netbook windows 7 starter, using MS security Essentials, and my girlfriend got a Samsung tablet for Christmas that we currently has none.

The XP computer is only used for my Vinyl cutter because it has to run off a serial port.

Anyone have any suggestions

Leave AVG on the XP, Leave security Essentials on the netbook and install security Essentials on the Samsung Tablet.

Don't think MS Security Essentials will work on an Android Tablet Zep516 (I'm not 100% sure, only 75% sure). I could be wrong that Samsung also only makes Android tablets too!

There are lots of Free Anti-Virus Programs out there for Android Devices: AVG, Norton's, Kaspersky, just to name a couple. Just go to the Play Store and type Anti-Virus for Android Devices (they do have Ratings like all other programs 4.3 - 4.8 is good). I'm using Lookout Anti-Virus on my Older Android Tablet. It's been a good AV for me for the past 4-5 years!

Hmm, FixMeStick - never heard of that one before. Of note : "Not a replacement for anti-virus software which protects PCs from infections, the FixMeStick is for removing infections that got past the anti-virus." About Norton . . . . there are various mentions on av-comparatives.org that Symantec had elected not to participate, although it's not stated as the general reason it's not included so it's a bit of a mystery. I think Aputernut's main point there was to remove any existing AV program before installing another. However, despite that it may work well for some users, it has a reputation in the IT fixit world as being (historically) heavy on resources, and very difficult to remove. It even requires a separate special tool to remove it completely. On the other hand, since a lot of people use it, it probably generates more complaints just by the raw numbers. Your mileage may vary. The problem is, once a program gets a reputation, many people may move away from it and continue to stick with their last impression of it. It's hard to keep up with every iteration of a program. Case in point . . . Internet Explorer, which really lagged for a very long time, but now has somewhat caught up with the competition. My impressions are based on a limited number of contacts with tech support, but I sense that tech support overseas is harder to communicate with. Part of it is language, part is culture. Overseas tech support seems almost autometronic. They seem to have a script they work from, and if your problem doesn't fit one of their scripts, they can't help. When I asked for help in fixing the problem myself, the only reply he gave me was to ask me to let them take over my computer. And he had no response when I said no. He didn't seem to understand why I refused. And my comment, "There is no way on God's green earth I am giving you access to my computer," didn't resonate with him. This happened on the heels of another tech support call involving my cell phone company. I received an odd e-mail out of the blue from my phone provider that they were going to stop my phone service on a certain date, and when I called, I was told by someone in tech support that they were no longer going to accept payment by PayPal. So I went in to my account to change to another payment method and found myself locked out. I called for help, and they couldn't get into my account. The tech support guy from the phone provider wanted the password for my Paypal account. I refused. And he didn't seem to understand why I would not give it to him. I think someone living in the US would understand this sensitivity on the part of the customer.

I am a Californian, 2nd generation Bakersfield, CA; raised both our children there. We left in 2013 after retirement. Our career Coastie was stationed in DC, so the grandchildren are all out here. It helps that it's a lot greener, we don't have to ration water or worry about our well running dry every August. Cost of living in the eastern panhandle is the most expensive part of West Virginia, about the same as the San Joaquin Valley. I've lived in 8 different states, but I'm still a south of town farm girl. Been around long enough to understand the challenges of a steady supply of electricity and to respect its ability to help and to hurt. Therefore I'm more careful than most.

"I felt that McAfee was slowing my computer down when I had it (long ago - like well over a decade) and did see an improvement after I removed it. That may not be an issue now." That's been my experience, not an issue now and hasn't been for a very long time. I've used Norton for about 10 years, and simultaneously McAfee on some PCs for about 3 years and I found them very similar. Nearly invisible, very light footprints and light resource utilization, never interfered with responsiveness or hogged resources while using the PC for other things users do. Both also do periodic scans when the PC is on but idle and suspend scans when use resumes if not finished.

I had look out on one of my android phones a few years ago. Never had a problem where it needed to stop anything but it seems like a nice AVG. I don't have anything on my new android phone or my Samsung tablet and have never had a problem without one. Mary

Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't work on Android devices.

Many would say it doesn't work on Windows devices either. Any of the other antivirus product choices available are probably better choices.

I'd personally use Comodo, whatever free product they have for the desired platform. They also offer paid products, and the easiest way to find the free one is to google for their forums, and find the link posted there by their employees when they announce a new version. They are stickied on the appropriate forum usually.

For Android, Google Play will find their free AV. I've also used AntiVir on Android and it's fine.

If this helps any, I know that Kaspersky has a great product for computers. I would think that they wouldn't want to ruin their reputation putting out a bad product for Android devices!
