temporary fix may be to be set your date ahead about 2 weeks.. if you can.

Others will chime in on how to get rid of that guys scareware program. Hope he gets arrested soon, or worse.

Not to chastise you, but let this be a lesson to never install anything that just pops up on your computer, no matter how legitimate it looks. This is a classic ploy by people who want to con you into installing malware and viruses on your computer.

This might be a little difficult to do. KG do you remember clicking on any site or hyperlink out of your normal routine? This concern did not appear out of thin air so you must have inadvertently visited somewhere.

Ravencajun, I think I fixed it myself. I went on-line and found another site that gave the same and other info on how to disable the virus so you could then run a scan, the first couple didn't work but found one that blocked it. (rkill) Then I downloaded Computer Doctor and ran a full computer scan. It took a few hours and I was worried about messing something up so I didn't get back on-line until it was complete. I ended up having to buy their software but it was only $29.95, much cheaper than the $100 the other website wanted to charge me. It seems to be gone. Later I will probably run Malwarebytes too just to double check.

That is very unfortunate that you provided money and your credit card info. My guess is it is not all gone. I still urge you to go to the forum I linked to and ask to see if you are clean. It is your risk, I sure would not do any transactions with it till I got the fully clean word.

can you please post a link to the program you used that you are calling computer doctor, there are several with names similar to that, which are in fact rogue, not legit. It is very important to find out which you used because your credit card may be in jeopardy if it is one of these that you used.

I've heard of PC Doctor, but not Computer Doctor. Besides, any software that will scan your computer but will only fix what was found if you purchase it is a SCAM! As to any website charging $100 to repair your computer, I cannot imagine that it is reputable.

XP Antivirus 2012 and the other iterations of the name-changing rogue are nasty, often with an accompanying rootkit.

Paying for these programs is putting the money in the hands of the very ones that are creating the issues then trying to scare you into giving them the credit card.

Corrine has been very busy this week at LzD cleaning up this very same infection from several of our GW friends!

To be clear, when something pops up on your computer, it could be from anywhere. Just because it pops up doesn't mean that it's safe or comes from a legitimate source. That is the reason I said that you should investigate before clicking on any window that pops up. Reflexively clicking on something can infect your computer or give a hacker permission to install some bad stuff on your computer while posing as something innocuous. Just because it has what seems like a legitimate name means nothing. Hackers can name their infections anything they want and can construct popups that look very convincingly authentic.

It's called Spyware Doctor, not Computer Doctor. My computer is really slow, but it has been for a long time. It's old and there's a lot of stuff on it that I probably don't need. Now I have 3 virus scan programs on it.

If you have 3 anti virus programs (not to be confused with anti malware programs) no wonder your computer is slow. You should only have one. I strongly suggest you go to the forum ravencajun recommended above.

please please please go to LzD and ask them for assistance, Corrine is there knows about this has responded here on this thread and will help you. If you continue to use those kinds of programs on that pc you will not be able to repair it soon. and I already fear for your credit card and identity. This infection usually installs a root kit that is not something to have on your pc!!!! you can do this, 3 others from GW have gone this week to have this infection cleaned and are getting excellent results you can too.
