Don't feel bad about it. It's not like we all haven't done it at one time or another. I just spent several months going from store to store, trying to find 5/8 inch drip line. My whole system is 5/8, which apparently is no longer available. There is no such thing as an adapter to reduce 5/8 to the 1/2, which is the only thing available. Oh duh. I just figured out I can buy the 1/2 inch, put a garden hose adapter on the end and simply screw it together with the already existing garden hose adapter on on 5/8 inch line. No kidding, I have been to every plumbing and garden store in the county.

You may have purchased an ornamental if you baught it while it was flowering but a picture would be great. You can grow a few different bananas in Texas with great success. Dont try to seperate anything now, just leave it until its done flowering at least. But a picture would really help.

Do your lower limbs bear any fruit at all? It may be that the tree is a seedling, and only the top branches are mature enough to bear. Or the tree may have been grafted, but sprouts from the rootstock may now make up a good part of the tree. Are the leaves of the bearing branches identical to those of the non-bearing branches? In any case, yes, you could graft scions lower on the tree. T-budding or chip-budding in the spring would be far easier than cleft grafting. Here's another thought -- if you are going to be severely pruning this thing anyway, you'll likely stop it from bearing much for the next couple years. What would you think of purchasing a new grafted tree of the variety of your choice, planting it in a more favorable position in your yard, and ultimately eliminating this problem tree?
