General novice AV questions

Hi all, being a beginner AV fan, I'm looking to pick some brains-

1- do clay or terra cotta pots have to be glazed to protect from cold?

2- how do you know when it's time to repot when starting babies?

3- when do you start allowing the buds to blossom rather than sending energy into root growth?

4- what would be the best way to introduce violets to a new room with much increased daylight? how do I choose which window to set them by- east or south facing or based on noted light?

5- how many hours of light do you find best?

6- do you use rooting hormone every time you repot?

Thanks in advance! Any advice would be appreciated! When my nana passed away 18 months ago, I took over care of her 5 "adult" plants (which all need repotting) and attempted to grow 2 plants from leaf cuttings, which left me with 8 babies that all need repotting as well. I'm just winging it so far!
