Suggestion for newbies in humid south.
Comments (5)I don't normally post on this forum...I stick mainly to the antique rose forum, but, I agree with Pete regarding OGRs... There is something about roses that have lasted in commerce for hundreds of years...many of these are tough, reliable garden plants. I don't grow HTs. Out of over 500 roses, I may have 3 HTs...I'm not into fussy divas...nor do I grow many minis...Nozomi and Red Cascade... I search out disease resistant roses for my no spray garden. It's been an incredible journey for me. I've found my passion. Robert...See MoreHow's Maman Cochet in the Humid South?
Comments (6)Well, in the Gulf Coast I'm not, but is the Space Coast okay? :) Maman Cochet has been in my garden for a year and a half, ownroots from Chamblees. It's done very well. The flowers are breathtaking, I love the form and how it just keeps unfurling! It will ball some when it rains, but not enough to bother me. I spray my garden for blackspot so my specimen is clean, but I have the feeling it's probably a lot more resistant than many modern HTs. Fragrance--I don't smell tea-scent very well, so to me it's scentless. Still, the color and form make it a keeper. I hope this helped... Elaine...See MoreHealthy Floribundas for hot & humid
Comments (24)I'll tell you what, though, there is no rose that performs as well as Sweet Drift for me, except maybe Easy Does it (on fortuniana). Sweet drift is a real winner and has done well in every single spot I have put her (I have over 10), even in the not so ideal spots, even in partial shade, she has thrived. It is truly a bullet proof rose for me. All drifts have done pretty well for me, but Sweet Drift is by far the best....See MoreShrub roses for humid South?
Comments (20)Peach Drift has been outstanding the past 3 years; non stop bloom and very healthy. It is low-growing; we cut it back to about 18 inches so I don't know how tall it would get if left unpruned. Tamora is a compact Austin with lovely fragrance and beautifully shaped blooms. One of the more resistant of his roses and repeats very well. Likes full sun and plenty of water. Perle d'Or is pretty, graceful and fragrant as well as very tough. Blooms are small and have a uniquely silky texture; the petite blooms have narrow ribbon like petals. Pat Henry of Roses Unlimited recommends Carding Mill; I've seen it in a public garden and the color is really gorgeous. She's in the South Carolina highlands so what's good for her would likely be good in your area too....See MoreBuford_NE_GA_7A
