I can send you 6 seeds just collected from Acer japonicum Acontifolium 'Dancing Peacock' . I soaked them for 24 hours in water and then refrigerated them. I also have other JM seeds just collected but do not know the cultivars, they have beautiful fall foliage. This is my first year to experiment with JM seed. Also have other items on my trade list, although I am in Zone 7b, probably alot of them would not survive in your Zone.Thanks Sherry

There are two species of hardy Cyclamen that are commonly available, Cyclamen hederifolium blooms in late summer, early fall, in the absence of foliage. After the flowers fade, the foliage emerges and persists throughout the winter and dies as summer approaches. Cyclamen coum foliage appears in late fall and flowers emerge in late winter. Both become dormant in early summer, so it's a good idea to mark their location to avoid disturbance. Also reduce water during the summer. Both require about the same growing conditions; shady, well drained, porous, even gravely soil. Plant them so that the top of the corm(tuber) is just below soil surface. Cover with coarse sand and/or fine crushed stone/gravel. Dormant tubers, planted at this time of the year will not usually produce foliage/flowers until their next growth cycle arrives in the fall. Once established, they should begin producing seed, that are coated with a sweet substance, which ants love! They carry the seed to their dens and once the coating is removed and consumed, they remove the seed to their "garbage dump", where they are likely to germinate. They often drop the seed enroute, so you may find seedlings appearing in some very unusual places! The seedlings often bloom the third year after germination. Enjoy your prize!

I usually give away the larger plants, but then they always fit so easily under shrubs and such that they don't really compete much with most other plants. They do most of their growing during the 'off' season and then politely disappear when everything else starts to grow. To me an 'exceptional' form would be one with larger blooms, a new flower form or a unique color. I'm guessing yours are cyclamen hederifolium and for me the foliage on these is even nicer than the blooms. Last year I killed one which developed a nice pink tint on the leaves once it got cooler out, I wouldn't have minded a division on that one.... although I know I wouldn't have braved it. Let us know how your experiment works. If it were me I would dust with rooting powder (usually contains a fungicide) and be done with it. I've also heard cinnamon works as a fungicide or a 10% bleach wash as a disinfectant.... or you could purchase something specific to your experiment, but then it starts costing money. Right now the various leaf patterns and shapes are really looking nice.
