The Dog Who Ate (all the) Christmas (cookies)

Yes; that would be the Harry Dog.

We went to town yesterday afternoon to see In the Heart of the Sea - most excellent - and have dinner. We got home a little after 6. We locked Sam in the well-appointed mudroom. Harry has the run of the living room and kitchen. This always works fine. They can't fight or instigate one another to get into more mischief than either would get in on his own.

I doubled checked the door locks, lowered the thermostat, closed extra doors, and turned out lights.

I had several empty cookie racks stacked up near the stove, and several plastic containers filled with cookies on top. Which I had forgotten!

Two different neighbors had brought over large trays of cookies, candies, and all sorts of brightly colored goodies. I was going to package and freeze them into small portions since my sugar has to be severely limited. (I've asked them to bring only two cookies on several occasions, but they insist on bringing large platters full.)

We came home a few hours later. I knew Harry would be anxious to go out. Harry "waddled" up to his; his stomach was so distended he looked like a beer keg on legs.

I walked into the kitchen. Cookie racks were strewn about, and carefully opened (not damaged at all ) plastic containers were everywhere. Not one crumb of cookie, candy, or treat was left. Harry had a big ole party all by himself.

We did not feed him dinner, but gave him a large scoop of pumpkin, kept just for such tummy troubles. He kept going out last night, and even had to go out in the middle of the night, but we can tell he's feeling much better now.

This morning we gave him 1/3 of his normal breakfast, with more pumpkin. Wes just hitched them both up for a refreshing, long Christmas walk around town.

Merry Christmas to all!

It's an old photo, but maybe I'll get a good updated one tomorrow!
