Fairy tales for grownups

Generally when fairy tales are reinterpreted for adults, the results are disappointing. I find this to be especially true when the books are intended for young adults (teens). From time to time it results in a marvelous story. Robin McKinley did a superb job with Beauty years ago. I keep gibing this kind of book a try, hoping to find another gem. Once in a while, I do.
A current author named Rosamund Hodge has written two such novels I really enjoyed, Cruel Beauty and Crimson Bound. Neither novel is a direct retelling of a particular fairy tale, but both borrow important motifs from such stories as "Little Red Riding Hood", "Girl with No Hands", "Beauty and the Beast" and various classical myths. Definitely fantasy, but distinct from anything else I have read. If she keeps on in this vein, I will look forward to reading her books yet to come.
