Comments (3)>>The weather here is in the low 90's and upper 80's >Can you wait until autumn? We could. I do hate the thought of loosing the blooms of summer, assuming it doesn't get enough sun to bloom in its current location. But better doing it that way than having no plant at all. The rose was small, in a gallon container (and we feathered off the outer soil away from it a bit when we planted it with mycorrhiza last week). So I was thinking that we might reasonably easily scoop up pretty much the entire root area with a shovel if/when we move it soon. But you never know, sometimes the shovel doesn't accomplish what you think it's going to accomplish, especially with very friable soil that might start to fall apart. If you think we need to wait to be on the safe side, we will do that. Thanks so much for posting. Best wishes, Mary...See MoreWhat's with these two Fairy Tale roses?
Comments (17)Susan, whack the rogue canes back to 3". You can let them bloom first or not. Then the cane makes 2 or 3 laterals; cut these back to 2 or 3 leaves each and you get more branches. Etc. Or, if the canes are flexible and 4-7' long, bend the cane in a hoop and tie it to its own base ("self-pegging"). It will make 3 or 4 laterals at the top of the arch. You can cut off the outer/downward section later if you want. Or, something that works with some varieties not others is to pinch out the growth tips of strong basals when they are about 14" long. Be sure you get the fleshy growth tip, not just leaves. Some roses will branch in response, others will make just one shoot and keep going up. Most shrub roses have an awkward adolescence. You have to be patient and work with them for a few years, just as you know your daughter won't be 13 forever....See MoreLion's Fairy Tale
Comments (8)I'm in 8a, north Florida, and have had this rose for about 5 years. It's a little over 4', blooms alot and is carefree. Sometimes the bloom has a slight pink and sometimes a slight apricot. Hope you can tell in the closeups....See MoreID Rose- labeled Kordes Floral Fairy Tale
Comments (13)Patty- I know. So many rave about her so I'm disappointed that this is def. not FF. I checked your reference picture. She is so charming. Hopefully Pat will have a couple left for me. I've read FFT stays smallish so great for the narrow borders I have. Chris-Pat got back to me already- she thinks it's not Golden Fairy Tale either but might be Sunny Sky. I have Sunny Sky so i can compare the leaves to see if they look similar. If not I definitely got a couple of yellow "mystery" roses. The bloom has no fragrance but I know they often don't on baby plants so that's not indicative that it's not GFT. I have GFT but it's had a rough winter. The leaves don't look like these at all but it could be due to the stress unless what I think is GFT was not labeled correctly since it never bloomed last year so I can't be sure. hmmm...
