smallest practical single bowl sink for family kitchen
Comments (8)Thank you, Buehl. I know how carefully you've planned your kitchen so this is very reassuring. Just to make doubly sure I've explained this correctly, the 17" side of the sink is not really a sink. As with the Stages configuration, it's more of a 1" or 2" deep stainless surface contained within the total 42" boundaries of the entire installation. A cutting board that can slide the entire width of the sink comes with it and also a colander. DD thinks the shallow wet prep area will be perfect for rinsing fresh veggies (she's very into all sorts of greens---mustard, turnip, bok choy)before chopping on the cutting board and then scooping them into the colander to drain. When she is not using this area for prepping she thinks it will be perfect for stacking dirty dishes. This means that the 21" side is the only real sink. I have so many friends who either have a very big single sink or some sort or real double sink that I'm afraid a mom managing a family will think this Prologue sink is weird....See MoreDouble Bowl to single bowl kitchen sink
Comments (1)It will be less complicated than the double-bowl setup. Check your local library in the self-help section. They should have several homeowner repair books with good illustrations and descriptions....See MoreSingle Bowl Kitchen Sink ?
Comments (14)I have a large single bowl sink. It's never profitable to fill it with water for anything because it's so big. My first dishwasher in this kitchen wasn't doing the job, so I hand washed everything that I was furiously unpacking to be able to have company, none of it truly dirty, just dusty and smudgy from being boxed up for a year. Perfect for the two bowl method, huh? I had a rubbermaid dishpan that had mostly been used for laundry. Put it in the sink, as well as my biggest mixing bowl at first, then a new enamelled dishpan. Voila! Two bowl sink. They make dishpans with collapsible silicone gussets nowadays, as well as collapsible dish draining racks. You could wash up a whole lot of stuff with $50 worth of equipment that tucks under the sink in very little space when not in use. The only things I hand wash, given the working dishwasher, are pots, mixing bowls, knives, and uber-delicates, or something I'm going to want to use again before I run a load. I put a drop of soap in each large vessel and wash the small things in the suds, using the rinse water from the smalls to rinse the vessels as well, then do a final quick rinse on the vessels. I usually end up using less water that way than if I filled a dishpan, and everything gets very clean. It sounds like you do more handwashing. You might consider a second dishwasher for your large family. Dishwashers are more energy and water efficient than hand washing, and easier on Mom....See MoreKitchen sink - single bowl or single with small shelf? (Blanco Cascade
Comments (7)This is one of these individual-preferences things. I personally find the Cascade confining, and would not have one for my kitchen. I like a big single bowl. I don’t care about having a shelf for draining or a shelf in my sink at all. That’s me, and others feel differently, while others feel like me. My advice is to go to a place that has the Cascade on display. Bring with you your most frequently-used pot or pan. Pretend to handle it in the display sink. Also do same with a single-bowl sink. See how you feel. You can’t go by internet photos and specs. You need to see one IRL. Edited you add: just noticed that @Lisa Versaci is responding to a 2-year-old post. Wish I’d noticed that before I took the time to respond under the impression the OP was still shopping for a sink. Sigh....See Moredjenks76
