Need help with my daughtr

I try so hard with my adult daughter always there run errands for her I go to her apartment when she needs me. When her heart is broken I m there for her. However she never calls me not nice when I call her when she doesn't feel like talking. Close off doesn't really tell me anything. But will call, her father and always nice to him

I just had a conversation with my cousin about this.

My two examples were a story I read about Winston Churchill's mother & a conversation I had with a co-worker 30 years ago!

Jenny Churchill had 2 sisters, Clara & Leonie.

One of them wrote to the other, something like,

"I do everything for my children, & they don't give me the time of day.

Jenny does nothing for her boys, & they worship her."

My office-mate Henri Ann (named for her father) & I were talking at lunch one day about another office friend, who was known to be demanding & not helpful.

I think I was fussing along the lines of "I try so hard to be nice, & I can't get a date, & she has guys lined up offering her flowers, jewelry, vacations..."

Henri Ann replied "Sylvia, it seems to me that the girls who have the best luck with men are the ones who aren't very nice to them."

It seems like people who have good hearts & who are affectionate, who are "always there" for their loved ones are the ones who are taken for granted, who are taken advantage of, & who aren't wanted when they aren't needed.

Try being unavailable & being unable to help or serve her.

You asked about landscape color and whether to add a trellis. I don't know why people feel compelled to critique your home and suggest structural changes. It's a charming home and as functionthelook said, ignore suggestions to turn it into something cookie cutter. You don't have to defend the choice of the front door to anyone. Sheesh! You can bring in so much color simply by using plants with different color foliage...you don't need flowers, esp in the winter. Maybe reconsider some of the boxwoods. They are getting a bit crowded and, while the green is nice, I think you can do better. I might consider, instead of a trellis, reworking that line of boxwood by the truck and plant a tree that would add some color and interest year round. Maybe like a coral bark maple that has nice foliage 3 seasons and beautiful bark and twigs in the winter. I don't know if they grow in your are, but something similar surely does. It's hard to tell from the pics if that's far enough from your house for a small tree or not, but a pro landscaper could help with that. I'm not suggesting this style landscaping, just showing how much color you can get with foliage alone and a few flowering shrubs mixed in. I see what you've done including/incorporating your sofa's pinkish tan in your pillows and rug and using analagous deeper pinks. You might have better luck with a color scheme that relies on whites and then contrasting colors (navy, charcoal, chocolate brown) and lets the sofa's pinkish tan stand by itself. (Patricia is right that photos of more of the room would get you more helpful advice. She is wrong, IMO, to fling fly-by snark at your sofa instead of advice; and in how she spells the word "please". Consider white curtains with some texture, not pattern. Target often offers attractive panels - look for their Threshold or Hearth & Home/ Magnolia brands. Great advice offered from Sylvia....pearls of wisdom for you to live by...maybe for just awhile, maybe forever.

Although it may be one of the hardest things you'll ever have to do...but so worth it in the end.

Remember to stay positive/happy during this process...maybe it'll keep your daughter "guessing" so to speak.
