Adding RAM to MacBook 13" late 2009

My MacBook currently has Mavericks.

To be honest, I have no problem with how the laptop runs.

I have 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo

500 GB HD

4 GB RAM

I'm thinking of adding 4 GB to my RAM. Would it make a noticeable difference?

I'm in the Boston area. I have called 2 local stores that install RAM.
One charges $30.00 (Micro Center, Cambridge), the other (Replay'd,
Allston) charges $20.00. The prices are just for labor. The RAM itself
would be additional.

Would anyone know a good online store to buy RAM?

Call Apple and ask what they think. Or, go visit an Apple store and talk to one of the Geniuses.

If it's running fine, what motivates you to add RAM? I'd leave it alone. An old cliche says "don't fix what ain't broke". It applies more with PCs and other IT items than for anything else, in my experience.

It surely won't hurt to increase the Ram in your MacBook. You might notice a very Small Increase in Speed but don't expect much speed. It will make Multitasking, Video Editing, Music Editing, etc... go more smoothly. Here is a Video: Upgrading MacBook RAM. BTW, if you do decided to do this yourself please make sure to Ground yourself before opening the case. Also, don't handle the RAM on the Flat Sides (like that guy does in the Video), only touch the Edges. You could damage the RAM handling it the way he is handling it (the RAM could also damage your computer from improper handling)!

Make sure when ordering your RAM that you Purchase the Correct RAM for your Model. Also make sure to check your MacBook Specs to see what amount of RAM your MacBook can handle (most likely 8GB will Max it out)!

I'm not a Mac Person but I have worked on a few. I think my daughter had a 2009 MacBook Pro with about the same specs as yours. Think it's 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive and either an Intel i3 or i5 at 2.2 or 2.4GHz (can't remember which)!

I can now add 7 pints of busylizzy's 10 day pickles with cinnamon and cloves. I still have several jars of last year's sweet pickle chunks, and although I love them, I have enough to last until next summer, so I tried Liz' recipe. They are very good and very sweet and very spicy, like candied cucumbers, how can that be bad? I finally got 13 pints of "sissy" salsa canned, I like it mild. Elery will be home tonight so we'll probably get in a double batch of the flaming hot stuff for him in the next couple of days. The chicken stock is still in the fridge, it wasn't as reduced as I like it when I got home so it got four more hours in the roaster, then hit the fridge about 11 pm. I'll skim the fat tonight and pressure can it. Since I had some extra time, LOL, I made two sugar free rhubarb pies, does that count? My BIL is diabetic and it's his birthday, and he loves rhubarb pie. I find that the rhubarb really overwhelms the artificial sweetener flavor and is almost unnoticeable, so that's good. I'm a little less certain about the white wheat flour that I made the crust from, but I'm trying to make it as healthy for him as I can. So after the flaming hot salsa is done, what's next? Either plain canned tomatoes or beets. One batch of pickled and the rest just plain I guess. Unless anyone has a good unique recipe for canned beets? Annie

Dprothy, That's a lot of rain. I think ours was only about 53" for 2009 but haven't added it all up and that would not be a record for our county. And, of course, for us 53" was a whole lot, especially compared to 2008, when we received just under 23". You're in Adair County, right? I've linked your county's one-page climate survey from the Oklahoma Climatological Survey, and it shows your county's record rainfall at just over 80" way back in 1927. Fanboys and Easylist are both good general subscriptions. Nowadays when Adblock Plus installs, it automatically subscribes you to one or the other at random. Yeah, if you don't have Easylist in there, and you disable Fanboy, you won't be subscribed to any list and Adblock Plus won't do you a bit of good. So you'll want to re-enable it. Optionally, if you want to try Easylist, it's here: http://easylist.adblockplus.org/en/ or if you'd rather: Add EasyList to Adblock Plus I wouldn't subscribe to both at the same time though, it might slow your browser down too much checking through two huge lists. :) Edit: It's okay to have both Easylist and Fanboy listed in you subscriptions... just don't have both enabled(checked) at the same time. Edit2: I just tried Fanboy on one of my other computers just in case there was a problem with one of his filters. It "seems" to work fine. I haven't priced used Macs but it sounds in the ball park. Doesn't much matter anyway, it's not like you can return it. <lol> I love OSX and you'll find it a little different than Windows but you'll pick up quickly enough (and wonder why Microsoft hasn't put some of these features into Windows). Apple's native browser, Safari, isn't the greatest so you'll want to add Firefox and/or Chrome. OpenOffice is available for OSX if you need an office suite. You're likely maxed out on RAM but if you want to speed things up a bit you might think about replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive (SSD). Prices of SSDs have dropped considerably.

A late '09 MacBook probably maxes at 4 GB. You can type the model number over at Crucial and they'll tell you for sure. If not, they'll sell you memory. It's not difficult to put in but the entire back of the laptop needs to come off. There's about a dozen little Phillips head (#0) that need to come out to take off the back.

Never thought about that, but Mike may be right. I pulled up some Specs on a 2009 MacBook with 2.26GHz Dual Core Processor and it looks like it comes with 2GB RAM (2 x 1GB Modules). Your computer may be MAX'ed out at 4GB RAM. It surely won't hurt to check the Crucial Website and enter your Model Number to see!
