What plant do you want most, but have been unable to find?
Comments (60)Great thread, thanks for starting this. For me it's Pitcairnia feliciana. To be frank I'm not crazy about its look, but it's the one bromeliad that escaped North/Central/South America and put down roots in Africa (with a little help from migratory birds). I imagine getting a hold of one is next to impossible because of the recent outbreak, but who knows, maybe there are some established specimens elsewhere....See MoreWhat have you been doing in your garden?
Comments (5)I can't believe how warm it has been this last week. Yesterday we didn't feel the need to put a fire on in the morning or the evening. This kind of weather makes me have to go out and garden. We took out a very ugly fence to our chicken yard are trying to figure out where to put the new one. Would love to do something attractive as well as functional. A few days ago we went to a great nursery called Turner greenhouse, it's at the Turner's house in LV. Wow do they have a lot of plants, expecially succulents. After buying five different agaves I've been planting them to replace the winter damaged ones in the back yard. We got one called Zebra, Parryii truncata, gemniflora, and I think a varigated and a blue Murphy's. Oh, I did something sort of brave. We have a very large canary date palm in our front yard. I have never liked it and never felt it went with our house or our landscaping style but it is so big. I offered it to a landscaper I know and he sounds interested in it. Wish I would have done this four years ago when the tree was smaller and we would have had something nice and well established by now. Life is to short to keep plants around you don't like even if they are big and hard to get out. Also since winter is almost over it is definately time to get the mail ordering done. High Country Gardens here I come! Happy Gardening, Maria...See MoreWhat Have You Been Doing Lately?
Comments (20)a pal posted a recipe using a cup of sugar, boric acid, mixed in warm water...then put out on cotton balls soaked in the solution. one friend in ak used it couple of days ago and is now ant free? also heard someone subbed coke for the water? dh finally got word his father is now on Medicaid...what an up-hill battle...we have a folder at least 2" thick, of all the info they wanted...oh including 2 life ins policies which were actually his car ins and another temp from good sams club days... he's 93...and now we're getting all his junk mail...that stuff never ends... finally have turned the heat off...this is the latest we've had it on in a long time...and today was the first time we've had trees leaf out...(se mi)...See MoreWhat an unusually warm weather we've been having..
Comments (31)Some 95% of my roses have new growth and buds right now. Even some of the once bloomers are pushing growth. The only properly dormant ones are Cardinal de Richelieu, Tuscany Superb and Felicite Parmentier - even Charles de Mills is growing a little. I am wondering if the dry late summer/autumn fooled them into thinking that was winter - my finicky Mme Pierre Oger is pushing new flower buds. Of course due to low light, and the incessant rain, the flowers I'm getting are mostly small and battered, but I cut a dozen or so buds for the table over xmas. What is more bothersome is that the bare roots I heeled in due to excessive wet making it difficult to dig are all attempting to leaf out. There's a semi dry spell forecast for the next few days so I shall attempt to get them in and wince at the lawn later....See MoreMarie Tulin
