Hand shower instead of a bathtub spout

I am wondering if I can use a regular shower/spout valve but with another use. I would like to use the spout outlet from the shower valve to feed a hand shower. the hand shower of course would need a valve just like the bathtub spout. My question is: Has anybody actually done it before? My fear is that the added resistance (when compared to a spout) of the hand shower would make it possible for the main shower to be dripping or half-on even when the hand shower valve totally open.

Your question and title make no sense in its present form.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish ?

Do you have a tub and a shower that you want to share a valve with , or do you have a combination tub/ shower or or just a tub that you want a filler and a hand shower ?

It would take a VERY long time to fill a tub up with a handshower wand. It's possible, but not at all practical.

To have a hand shower connected to the bathtub spout outlet of the shower valve.

Yes, we would have a hand held instead of a tub spout. Today I found the Danze Custom Shower System Design Guide states the "D113000BT valve with trim allows for supplied water to be diverted to either a single tub filler or additional shower components". I can call Danze and ask if a hand held shower qualifies as an "additional shower component" although I don't know why it wouldn't.

Although, we are re-doing a bathtub/shower, and I am replacing it with showerhead, handshower and tub spout, and had to get all the pieces separately (didn't care for the Symmons styles). We are going to use a delta pressure balanced valve (but it has separate handles on one valve, one for water volume and one for temperature), and then a diverter (to go to either tub, shower, or handheld). The rest of the parts are going to be Grohe, but they are all from different style lines (yeah, it sounds like Frankenstein but I don't think it will look that bad).

The photo above is a Grohe, which I do like. I would like to find more options, however. I think we're going with an Americast tub vs. cast iron. The Kohler villager seemed to be narrow at the front end, IIRC. I shower and never bathe, so heat retention performance isn't important to me.

Not a silly question. When you have water forcefully hitting the inclined side of the tub high enough up, though most of it will splash downwards, some of it goes sideways, and some of it -- counterintuitively -- splashes back upwards from where it strikes the side and you can actually have a small puddle start to form on the floor in this area from water spray bouncing up and escaping this way. It the water doesn't hit the side of the tub, but only the bottom of the tub, it doesn't bounce high enough to do this.

There is no tub. It is a renovation. I would only use the spout outlet to drive the hand shower instead of having a spout. What I want is something like the link below. However, I would like to use a delta tempassure configuration on the valve.

So you want to have a showerhead, and a tub spout and then somehow divert the flow of the spout to a handshower ?

If so, get the thing chispa links to.

Is this valve of yours installed already or are you doing a new one?
