Where to put the kitchen? Help with floor layout

Hello GW experts. I’ve been reading these forums for several
months now in anticipation of needing advice.

I recently closed on a house that was built in 72. It needs
a lot of updating. The biggest issue is how to make the kitchen work. I am
attaching a layout of the first floor.

While this may be a bigger remodeling question, I believe
the kitchen drives the rest of the floor design, so please, kitchen experts, where
would You put the kitchen?

In my previous house every year on a Saturday after Thanksgiving
I used to do a sit down dinner for around 35-40 people (it started small, but then
the word got out, kids grew, brought girlfriends, college friends, college
friends with girlfriends, you get the idea)

So I would like to keep the tradition going and have the
ability to cram 4-5 tables in the open LR+DR area.

This is going to be a house for adults. All entertaining is
either informal or semi-formal; when kids (grown up) are home they both love to
cook.

I have company over for dinner several times a week. So I
need space to cook a meal for 5-7, with a friend or two helping in a kitchen.

I bake artisanal bread, but don’t need a separate baking
area, regular prep area is enough.

I am willing to move walls/doors/windows in the kitchen,
breakfast area and DR. There is an unfinished basement below so there is full
access to plumbing, gas, etc. The wall where
the cooktop is right now is probably load-bearing, but there are ways to deal
with that, so let’s assume it can be opened.

All windows are low off the floor and would have to be moved
up and reconfigured to have a kitchen run along any wall with windows.

The front of the house is brick, so LR windows have to stay
where they are.

What I don’t need/ don’t like:

No separate breakfast area. I prefer to eat at
the DR table.

No island seating. Had it in my old house, only
used while waiting for the DR set to be delivered.

Don’t want induction.

No cooking on the island, I don’t like the hood
hanging in my field of vision

No warming drawers

MW is rarely used

What I need/want:

Easy access to the backyard from the kitchen/DR
area. We grill a lot and just like to eat outside.

Light, the backyard is facing west, and the DR
windows are facing north. I am worried there won’t be enough light in the
kitchen if I remove windows

Storage, prefer cabinets over a walk-in pantry

6-burner 36” gas range with a hood

An electric oven (or 2), if there is no wall
space I am ok with having it in the island.

CD frig

An island with the prep area and the prep sink

A beverage area with a small sink and a wine frig

Would like a sink under a window.

The only plan I was able to come up with is to
swap the kitchen and the DR, replace the large window in the breakfast area with
a set of sliding doors to the patio. The sliders in the FR next to the FP hare
old and scratched beyond repair by previous owner’s dogs and would have to be
replaced anyway. I may just put a window there as they look squeezed between
the FP and the kitchen.

I am hoping for better ideas here. Your help is greatly
appreciated.
