Capture carpet cleaner and Kirby vacuums

Following a mention on another thread (thanks, Kathy), I just bought
Capture carpet cleaner. I
found some bad stains on our wall to wall under a throw rug; a watering can had
leaked and now we have mildew and water rings on the carpet. I have other
stains as well, many from watering houseplants, and some traffic marks. I have
not had good luck with having it professionally cleaned before, and all I need
is some small areas.

I have been reading up on Capture. It uses a pre-treat spray and then has a dry powder worked into it. Afterward you vacuum it up. Reviews on sales sites say to change the filter
on your vacuum cleaner, and maybe rinse it out several times, or the fine
powder can clog up your vacuum. I have a Kirby upright. I am not aware of it
HAVING any filters. It uses disposable bags. As far as I can figure out, dirt
is sucked right into the bag.

This is an old machine, and has worked well for years. I don’t really want
to wreck it. After all these years, I would have no idea where to find the
manual. So before I start, I hope someone can explain this filter business to
me. Thank you.
