Can a tangerine flower from seed soon

Good day all,

My mother recently brought home a pack of what looks like tangerines (small and sort of flattened oval, very deep orange colour, darker than an orange) and since they're going to be thrown away anyway I'm wondering if it's a good idea to try to grow one of the seeds?

As I understand it most tangerines/mandarins come true from seed, or similar enough. Does anyone have any experience growing one to fruiting or flowering from seed, or know anyone who did? How long did it take? My citrus can grow outside year round here although I'll probably start it in a pot first.

Also I'm more interested in accounts of success (flowering) rather than in progress anecdotes please, so no non flowering seed grown tangerines [Steve].
