Shopping for Holiday Baking Supplies

This time of year, I try to set in a year's supply of candied cherries for the cookies my younger son likes since the grocery stores don't sell candied cherries year round. Well, I shopped this afternoon and could not find any at the store where I shopped for the grandsons' visit tomorrow. I had to walk through the entire store checking all the special holiday displays and all the end caps for each aisle. Why can't they just put the supplies where they belong? Pumpkin with the canned foods. Sugars with the sugars, spices with the spices, and sprinkles with the other baking decorations. I will have to head off to a different store for my next grocery run. I hate having to shop at more than one grocery store to get all the supplies I need.

I made butter tart squares on the weekend and I don't like the price of nuts!

Sorry you're have problems finding what you need. I don't waste a lot of time looking for anything that's not where it should be, I ask somebody! Just don't have the patience to walk up and down aisles, lol.

I wish you lived next door. It would be a big help and keep me out of trouble because I bought some the other day only to find I'm inundated with them!

OK, I'm kind of thinking about it, although I still have a piece of Thanksgiving's buckeye cake to get rid of. I did buy 5 lbs of butter for $1.25 a pound yesterday, and 4 jars of marshmallow cream on sale. Since I've decided that I'm not putting up a tree this year and I'll put up just a few decorations, I might have more time to back. However, I promised Amanda I'd take her Christmas Shopping and we have tickets to see "the Nutcrapper" (Bud's version of the title, LOL) and I need to do Christmas with my family AND with Elery's, AND I have Cooper to deal with, I don't know how much time I'm going to have... I'll at least make shortbread and fudge and some cutout cookies with The Princess and Bruvver and find enough time to watch Rudolph and The Muppet Christmas Carol and the Jim Carrey version of The Grinch with the grandkids. In my heading I wrote... would you buy again and are you happy with the quality. This is an update on the kids Splendid brand tee shirt. No, I would not buy again. I think thirty some dollars for a kids Tee is pricey. I did it though because I wanted a more substantial cotton. I mean, I don't know if this is a developing 9yr old or not and didn't want flimsy see- thru-ish. It came wadded up in a bag and although cute it is a ripoff for the price. I could have gone to Old Navy and spent $7.00. Cute but over priced.

Trader Joe's has a great supply of holiday items, nuts and dried fruits. Also Whole Foods. I'd never even bother with my regular grocery store for such items.

I've been known to call a store to ask if they have a particular hard-to-find item. If they do, I have them set it aside for me, then I go there as quickly as possible to buy it.

I found the the candied fruit at Walmart.

Now whatever happened to the tubs of gumdrops/spicedrops that should be around this time of year?

I have a lot of nuts on hand for some reason! I will shop for some chopped dates and maybe some candied cherries and that might be about all. I don't do a lot of my own grocery shopping much of the time. I am pretty well stocked up on most other things. Happy Baking!
