Shower advice please - framed, but should I change framing?
I currently have this shower framed in, and with the angle, it feels a little tight, especially for such a large shower area. This is a curbed shower with no door. All the walls shown, are full height (9'). I'm not completely clear where the drain is exactly in the shower area (need to ask my builder tomorrow) - the square in the middle is a light. I'm willing to spend a little (doubt it would be much) to change the wall framing if it makes sense, but changing the floor to make this curbless probably doesn't make sense at this point.
My question - would you leave this as is:
Or change to this - remove the angled wall, move showerhead (I'd square off the outside, too, just didn't take the time to draw that)? It feels more spacious and should save me a little tiling labor/waste, cost too. I wouldn't think I'd get significantly more splash back to the opening, if any, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Comments (2)Try to bring the end studs down below the subfloor so you can nail them off into the floor joists. If you can build the wall adjacent to a joist, great, nail off onto that. If not, then install blocking between two joists (the "X" pieces) and nail the studs off onto the blocking. Comments (14)I'm sure your build is more complicated but our contractor is also our builder. It took him a while to get his other project framed up and we sat with foundation walls for a couple weeks... He told me when he brought his 3 man crew in they would get it done quickly. I wasn't prepared for what they did. They started and finished in less than two weeks. We are building a 2200 sq. ft. rancher. It has five gables and it's all hipped. They stick framed the rafters and framed up the downstairs as well. Windows and doors are all installed less our large windows in the cathedral ceiling of the great room. I'm pretty impressed with their work ethic and craftsmanship. It's educational and entertaining to see folks who are masters at their craft do what they do. Comments (14)Depends on what look you're going for - contemporary? Then spend the $ now on frameless doors and get them installed. More traditional? Then do a shower curtain(s) and frame your mirrors. It's not that hard to do (I did it with a huge jigsaw puzzle in ds's nursery) after the mirrors are on the wall, as long as there's room. Only thing is you want to paint the back of the trim black so you don't see reflection of the wood where it overlaps the mirror. A mirror will be thicker than the jigsaw puzzle, so you'll need to route a channel in the back of the trim pieces where it overlaps the mirror, or else the outer edge of the trim won't lie flat against the wall. If you don't have the carpentry skills to DIY, ask your finish carpenter to do it - I'm sure it'll be a lot less than $200 per mirror (42" x ? each). Do you have pics of bathrooms so far (vanities, sinks, faucets, lighting installed?) so we can see what style is? Of course, oceanna's solution is much easier to DIY and looks so pretty (but more casual/contemporary). As always, oceanna, your painting is beautiful! No change in plans were discussed regarding the load bearing walls on the stairs and I wasn't given the right answer the first time I asked (and reported to you). I am not well versed in building (my husband handles that part of things), so sometimes I am not as clear as I want to be. However, I should not be treated like an idiot or a fool for it. I come to this forum to get advice and other opinions, not to be judged and ridiculed. There are a few "pros" on this board that don't seem to be working a lot (since they are constantly posting) and I have suspicions as to why. 8 years agoAnother question (if anyone has a similar setup) - if I were to remove the return wall completely and still plan to not have a door, what are the chances this will work? Either way, I'll make sure the blocking is there to add a door or curtain later.
