Have you had work done in the house recently? It founds to me like you are getting a cross connection or flow. Turn off all the cold supply valves and do flow/temp tests on the hot. I have seen cross flow in washing machine valve set-ups at times. I have also seen the situation you describe where the H/C supply lines were crossed on a new shower. These can be a pain in the neck to find. Get a method and follow it so you know what is happening at each faucet. It could very well be the shower valve as previously noted.

I have exactly the same problem. I have no idea how the air gets into my hot water lines . I recenlty installed a new hot water tank and its a simple one for one.I never had this problem before but now each morning I have nasty burps at the faucet I first use . Its great for the rest of the day but only in the morning do I get the trapped sputtering air. I do have an existing Vacuum relief valve attached to the cold intake line to the Hot water tank and itys probably 25 to 30 years old there is no leakage but could this somehow be allowing air into my hot water tank.? I am also scratching my head.

never_ending, yes, upper cabinets are easy to make. There are reasons for this. Several reasons that all combine to make it worthwhile. -- The thing you can have is 1 big box as an upper cabinet (therefore continuous, long, shelves inside the 1 cabinet). The front cover could be *either* 2 or 3 sets of panels that open with Blum Aventos HF hinges, *or* several narrow (vertical) doors that hinge on a front frame. In either case, you have continuous shelves. At first glance it looks like wall "cabinets" but, it's a single entity, not a series of boxes stuck together. So the shelves are uninterrupted by cabinet sides. When you open door 2, you can reach things in sections 1 or 3 as well. Storing things is easier too since your things don't bump up against barriers. -- 1 big box is easy. Here is one of the several reasons why wall cabinets are easier to make than floor cabinets. A wall thingie has to look good (straight and level), and be well screwed to studs. Looking good is less demanding than being truly level to a fine "tolerance". A run of floor-standing boxes has to be far better aligned: it supports a level countertop. So, a 1/8" misalignment becomes a serious problem, even if the floor is perfect, rigid, flat. A floor-standing box has to hold up to max. physical stress AND could have an unstable (squishy, spongy) floor under some of its legs. So, it can be a chore. Or more. But a wall thingie doesn't have to be square or level, to the Nth degree. Executive Summary: wall cabs are a few panels joined at 90 degree angle. They hang on the wall. The cabinetmaker doesn't need to work to the same degree of "perfection" as for the cabinets that stand on the floor and become a base for countertops. I second the notion that "you may be able to go IKEA bottoms and custom uppers without breaking the bank." -- Open shelving is not as easy to make as 1 big box. Because each shelf has to get its entire support from the wall studs. With 1 big box, shelves are supported by the two sides of the big box. I think what's happened is people read all this crap about cold water washing and decide to try it...they discovered the food stain or clay came out of their clothing and think great cold really does clean your clothing.. I'd bet many people just don't realize how much body oils the body produces each day even by the non oily skin folks. Body sweat and oils are the biggest soil in our clothing/bedding. You wouldn't wash your oily/greasy dishes in cold water yet have no problem thinking cold will remove oils in textile fibers. Remember cold water constricts (tightens up) fibers. Water and detergent can't get in to remove the soils. Very warm and hot relaxes the fibers allowing water and detergent to flush out the imbedded soils. Another thing people don't smell their own scent..I'm convinced of this. I've told this before but...my cousin has a beautiful home...immaculate...or so it appears. When I walk back thru her hall to the bathroom I can smell bedding that's not clean..the bed is made and looks just lovely but the scent is just awful. She washes all her bedding in cold and cool. She doesn't smell the funk but I do. I was reading a few years back on another Houzz forum where there was a conversation about linen closets...something about they put all their bed sheets in a closet freshly washed and smelling nice than several weeks later they stink. Their thoughts are something in the closet, the shelving the flooring must be causing the old stale scent in their sheets. Others chimed in with the same problem all saying the sheels smelled fresh and clean when they went into the linen closet. They were of course washing in cold water in order to preserve their high end expensive sheets and to prevent shrinking. I didn't comment in this thread but wanted to. LOL. Than there's the manufactures of **cold water detergent** sealing the deal. But even P&G when I spoke to them a few years back said its not ment to wash bedding...that bedding requires warm and hot to remove oils. They should print this stuff on the boxes/jugs. I don't care what detergents or how excellent a detergent is...it will not remove oils if your washing in cold. I wish those that wash in cold would take one pillowcase..a clean one and drop it in a pot of boiling water..shut the heat off, stir a minute and take a deep wiff at the steam comming off it. Beware its gonna stink.
