Halloween....Worm Thankgiving
Comments (7)I was planning on adding the gunk from inside the pumpkins I carve for the kids to my bin. It seems like pretty wet stuff, and having just gone through a stinky bout with the bin after adding 1/2 a rotted watermelon, I was wondering how much dry stuff I should add to counter the wetness of the pumpkin gunk. Any thoughts? Chuckiebtoo, you are brilliant. I'd use your idea but I don't have enough worms. Although I could just take a few from my bin and add it to each pumpkin, and keep it outside. It might take the worms to knock the pumpkins out, but I suspect they'd be happy as worms in manure while they were working on it....See MoreMarmoleum fiasco - resolution
Comments (8)I still have no idea why they scratched so easily. We have normal temperatures and humidity conditions here so anything that would happen here should be happening elsewhere. I have heard of others who had the same problem as we do, just not here on GW (if you google "marmoleum reviews", you will see both raves and pans). I sure wish we were in the rave category, because the idea of marm is exactly what we want. FWIW - we did not seal or do anything to the factory finish and yet it scratched. They came in and cleaned it and sealed it and yet it scratched. I think some lots must just be tougher than others. I also think our problem may be that we get a lot of natural light, from several directions, so the scratching may be more visible in our house. At night, with dimmer lighting, the scratches are much harder to see. I will certainly post once we have a kitchen floor figured out. You can bet that I will be researching like crazy once we narrow our choices down. We may even take our time for the kitchen part, but want to get the den and dining room done soon since that would be harder to re-do after moving stuff back in. In the kitchen, it is only the table and chairs that would need to be moved in order to re-do the floors. I am just so glad we can move our furniture into the new den soon and put the dining room stuff in the right place. I am so tired of all our furniture crammed into the living room and hallway. That would be a major step forward!...See MoreHow Are You Coming Along with Your Thankgiving Preps?
Comments (14)Am trying something new with pumpkin pie this year. I have made the filling, brought it to a simmer on top of the stove for 5 minutes, and it is now in the saucepan, covered with a towel and then a lid to cool so that I can put it in the refrigerator overnight. I hope that this method takes away that sometimes raw pumpkin taste that pumpkin pies have (I hope y'all understand what I am saying). Early tomorrow morning will blind bake pie crust, then pour the filling in and bake in the toaster oven. This is also supposed to keep the filling from cracking. We'll see. Also have dressing/stuffing made just waiting for some stock to be added in the morning. I am going to cook in the crockpot. Have also decided to cook sweet potatoes in the crockpot. Turkeys are thawed. Tonight, still have to prepare cucumber salad and dough for hot rolls that will stay in fridge overnight. Hopefully, I will get the herbal iced tea made, also. Carrot cake is made. I was going to make a homemade cranberry mold, but after consultation with family, discovered that they would prefer the Ocean Spray Jellied Cranberry Sauce, so that is what we will have. I am tired just reading this....See MoreLiving Room Layout Fiasco
Comments (11)@chispa's idea is good, too, but since you were bothered by chair backs facing entry, maybe that's a problem for you as well. The back of a sofa with console as chispa suggeests extends the foyer and walkway. It's functional and attractive. Try out the different suggested layouts....See More- 10 years ago
