Should I paint the drain holes I drill in a galvanized stock trough?

I'm planning on using a galvanized stock water/feed trough for a raised vegetable bed next spring. I'm concerned about the tank bottom rusting prematurely where I drill drainage holes and "break" the galvanized coating. I plan to put a couple of inches of gravel in the bottom, covered with screen or landscaping fabric to keep the soil from mixing with the gravel and washing out or plugging the holes. Should I paint around the holes to protect the raw steel edges or, since it will be raised up on blocks, should there be enough air circulation to keep rust at bay?
