Galvanized stock tanks for raised beds
Comments (29)This is an interesting thread, especially since last spring I set up two big plastic containers used for salt lick and minerals for our cattle. We buy it in these giant black plastic containers and the cows lick it down to nothing PDQ. Now I have two huge containers for my eggplants and peppers in a hot protected place on our patio. The plants are bigger than they ever were in the garden and beginning to give me fruit. We live in a very moderate climate with lots of summer wind which is what gave me the idea to keep them more protected and warm. I will have to keep my eye on the stock tanks, too. I have raised beds in the garden but they aren't all that high and the bending gets to my back, too. Picking bush beans is a killer now. I could set a stock tank on top of the raised beds for some things. Wonder how that would be??? I don't want to give up gardening, especially veggie, but it is getting harder each year....See MoreGalvanized stock tanks, questions and feedback...
Comments (6)Hi Aloha13, I have been researching this very thing and also don't want to pay the high price for stock tanks. Another issue with them is that you need to treat them like pots with the type of mix you use for pots becuase they have no cantact with all the goodies in soil. I am purchasing galvanized steel window wells (like you see around basement windows) and bolting two together to make a planter. They are reasonably priced, come in different sizes and remain open to the ground below. Hope this helps...See Moretilapia in an 8 foot galvanized livestock tank?
Comments (3)I have been hearing some good things about Blue Max Liquid Rubber Membrane for use in cisterns and ponds (potable drinking water grade), so I think it would be perfect for lining a galvanized tank for fish. Also investigate Backyard Aquaponics, where the fish-poopy water is pumped into plant beds (decorative or food types) to feed the plants, the water is cleansed by the plants and pumped back into the fish tanks. Let's see if they'll let me post the link... Sue Here is a link that might be useful: Backyard Aquaponics...See MoreChlorine Generators Causing Galvanic Corrosion
Comments (12)Lets see, Yes I understand the deference between grounding and bonding, And we regularly chuckle at the conflict between code and common sense. Cliff I agree the potential is most likely from the salt cell. And Yes Repair Guy the housing was bonded (I miss spoke). Here in Florida ( lighting strike capitol ) It behooves us to triple ground . If the current loop was between ground and bond, say stray current from the light housing I would think I would see GC in most if not all of the Ferris material associated with my beloved hole in the ground. But as this is not the caseÂ. IÂm leaning towards a current loop associated between the filter housing and the common ground that is mere feet from the unit. The water balance has not been a problem out side of the occasional monsoon we get, and even though the filter is oversized (if 1 is good , 3 is really good) the feed pipe is 2" with a 1.5hp pump and the run works out to 38 of head pressure, I donÂt think IÂm breaking any speed limits. So all this comes down to Â.. IÂm redoing the network now so I can jump through a lot of hoops or bite the bullet and put in a pvc DE filter and write it of to experience. Â...See MoreUser
