Why do you want to flatten it out?

well, when I laid it there were small bumps, so it's not perfectly flat and it's soft in places, so I was thinking to roll it with a not-so-heavy roller. I have a water filled roller so can set it light, say 1/4 full of water or less. Grass is for the kids to kick a ball around.

I see, I hadn't had my coffee yet this morning and thought you wanted to flatten the grass. I don't think I would put a roller on it right now with the grass being so young. I don't think you should cut it either until it gets to at least 3 inches. October seems kind of late to be seeding up in NY,especially with KBG which is slow to establish, hopefully it makes it ok through the winter.

Thanks for the advice. I did leave it a little late, as it's low down on a long list of house renovation projects, and hence the uneven surface, but it's not too bad for growth, and I figured better to see if I could establish it now than in Spring. It has actually grown quite well and we're right in the city so that surely counts for a degree or two extra in temps? :)
